Wright's flying machine, inventors and inventions transform
the way we communicate, travel and live our daily lives--
thanks to the creative process of innovation. That process is
highlighted in this video series, The Science of Innovation. In
celebration of the 165th birthday of one of America's greatest
innovators, Thomas Edison, the National Science
Foundation, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and NBC
Learn produced in 2013 this 11-part series narrated by NBC
News' Ann Curry highlighting innovators from across the
country.
Episode 1. What Is Innovation?
Whether it happens among students in a classroom, or
engineers in a laboratory, innovation is a process, a series of
steps that begins with imagination, and results in the
creation of something of value for society.

What is the concept of innovation?


The process of translating an idea or invention into a good
or service that creates value or for which customers will
pay. ... In business, innovation often results when ideas are
applied by the company in order to further satisfy the
needs and expectations of the customers.

Technological innovation

What is meant by technological innovation?


Definition: Technological innovations comprise new
products and processes and
significant technological changes of products and
processes. An innovation has been implemented if it has
been introduced on the market (product innovation).

HE INNOVATION SOCIETY
In the Innovation Society, citizens are just
consumers hungry to satisfy “needs” they didn’t
know they had; firms work to create those needs and
the products that satisfy them – that is, they
innovate, or they die; and governments make sure
that nothing – from social justice to cultural
enrichment – gets in innovation’s way.
Why is innovation important for society?
Innovation is important to the advancement of society. New
and innovative products have increased the standard of
living and provided people with opportunities to improve
their lives. ... Well, the importance of innovation can be
condensed into 2 key areas: Efficiency & Increased Value
and Competitive Advantage

Why is change important in society?

Gradual change is necessary and desirable and


typically stems from such things as population
growth, technological advances, and interaction
with other societies that brings new ways of
thinking and acting. However, sudden
social change is undesirable because it disrupts
this equilibrium.

The Idea & Innovation Society (“Society”) was


created to embrace incoming and innovative-minded
first year students—from all colleges
and backgrounds—and immediately provide a
community of students to connect, collaborate,
share ideas and resources, and to help you run faster
with your ideas and innovations.
We are looking for idea creators and innovative
thinkers from any and all majors at UNH—from music
or dance, engineering or business, chemistry or
history, Spanish or equine sciences, biology or
communication science disorders… the list goes on!
The Society has a permanent home at UNH’s
Entrepreneurship Center (ECenter) on campus. The
ECenter is not part of any one college to
intentionally provide opportunities for all students on
campus to interact and work together.
