Reflection on Thomasian Nurse Interviews

This reflection paper discusses interviews conducted with Thomasian nurses by nursing students. Interview of a Thomasian Nurse Reflection Paper

As a Thomasian nursing student, we are expected to hold the values of a Thomasian


nurse even after we graduate from the university. Through the interviews of each group, we
discovered that Thomasian nurses became who they are today in their field because of these
values. Also, the core values became their greatest assets as professional nurses today. Although
each nurse had different experiences, they shared the same commitment to their profession.
Compassion is a value that the nurses also shared that made them one of a kind to others,
especially the clients or patients. One of the nurses shared her experience with a patient who
immediately knew that she came from the UST College of Nursing, even though she did not
disclose her information, because the patient observed how the nurse worked compared to the
other nurses. From the preparation to the actual interview, I, together with my groupmates, had
an unforgettable experience because of what we learned. Preparing the questions that our group
wanted the professional nurses to answer was easy because as a freshman nursing student we
wanted to know what it's like to become a professional nurse, specifically a Thomasian nurse.
The answers that they gave was an eye-opener for us because it made us want to strive harder for
our goal. For our group, we reenacted the experiences that the nurses shared, and the activity was
fulfilling because it made us feel that we will have these similar experiences in the future. On a
different note, a few nurses that were interviewed continued their education to medical school.
Although they went to medical school, they still try to embody what they were taught in nursing,
specifically the core values. Accomplishing this interview is rewarding because all the
experiences that the nurses shared was enlightening, and it made us cherish the blessing of being
a Thomasian nursing student.
