Eqibility
Applicants must:
Be Singaporeans and other nationals intending to take up Singapore citizenship
Have strong interest in a research career
Have outstanding undergraduate results (preferably 1st Class Honours Degree or equivalent)
in relevant disciplines
Obtain good GRE scores
Have applied or be applying for a PhD programme at a top global university
Other requirements:
Successful applicants are required to undergo a one-year research attachment at an A*STAR
research institute prior to their PhD studies
The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive.
A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on prevailing scholarship policies.
These policies may be amended from time to time without notice
Coverage
Successful applicants will be given the following support* for up to five years:
Full tuition fees
Monthly sustenance allowance, inclusive of CPF contribution (where applicable)
Monthly overseas living allowance
Annual return airfare
Other allowances including
Conference allowance
Thesis allowance
Book allowance
Computer allowance
Warm clothing and settling-in allowance
*All rates/allowances vary according to country and university, and are subject to adjustments
made by A*STAR.
Service Comitment
Upon completion of the PhD programme, scholars will return to Singapore and contribute to A*STAR’s
research institutes for four (4) years.

A*STAR accepts and processes applications throughout the year. However, priority will be
given to applications that reach us by 1st April for admission to an overseas university in Fall the
following year.
I am interested to do my PhD studies locally, under the AGS (Singapore), but my supervisor does not
have an existing collaboration with A*STAR. Can I still apply for the AGS (Singapore)?
The nominated supervisor has to be approved by the respective A*STAR Partnership University’s
Governing Boards. You may want to ask your proposed supervisor to check with their respective
universities or RI HR to enquire the process to be approved as an AGS Supervisor. In most cases, the
main and co-supervisors should hold at a minimum, the designation of Principal Investigator or Principal
Scientist at an A*STAR RI.
Should I apply for a scholarship after I have gotten a place at NUS/NTU?
AGS (Singapore) applicants are encouraged to apply for university admission concurrently with your
scholarship application
