Chapter I
Introduction
Background of the Study
“Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the
younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes
the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with
reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world.”
Paulo Freire
Right from the time we are born, it is stressed to us that education is the key to success.
It is a continuous process of learnings. Education gives us a knowledge of the world around us
and changes it into something better. Education is the most powerful weapon that it can be used
to change the world. It can make or break your present and most especially your future. We can
say that we have a brighter future if we study hard and be well educated. It is our weapon to
whatever life may bring us. One of the best educators is our parents. They are the first educators
of their children. The child learned basic education at home and its preparation for a good
educational experience. Many parents actively teach their children how to live life. Parents are
the best Teacher for they provide emotional support and motivation. If the parents are organized
at home, the children are more likely to be organized. The children are the mirror of what kind
of education they have at home. Parents sends their children to school to get formal education.
Teachers are the role models beyond those provided by parents. They are also considered as the
second parents of the children. If the parents taught their children how to live life, teachers teach
the students how to earn a living. Teachers provides them knowledge and ability to earn a living
for a better future. Teachers nurture students’ learnings and mold them to be a responsible
learner. They play the big role of what the child will become in the future.
Parents and Teachers played the Big role in students’ education. Both parties should
work hand in hand together to give the students the best education they deserve to have. Parents
and teachers have a common goal, to give the best educational experience possible for students.
All parties have different responsibilities but with a common goal. Teachers must have a
constant communication with parents for the parents to do a follow up study at home. Teachers
should inform the parents right away for whatever the students’ performance at school, be it
good or bad. If the teachers fail to communicate with parents for the students’ bad performance
at school this may lead to failure of students’ education. The partnership between parents and
teachers is not easy to maintain, but it is needed for students’ education. Parents can take active
parts by checking the notes sent home by the teachers, talking to their children and attending
school activities. Parents and teachers should have constant communication for whatever the
students’ performance in school or at home. It is very much important that parents and teachers
have a good teamwork for the students better learning process. Parents do the first move by
sending their children to school and the teachers will do the rest to make the students learning
comfortable when they are at school. Parents supports financially and teachers supports mentally
but both with the same motives, to give the students good education. Teachers teach the students
the theory of life while parents taught them the reality of life. Parents and teachers have the
same common role, to give the best learning experience to the students possible.
Statement of the Problem
This study focused on the Roles of Parents and Teacher’s in the education of Students.
Specifically, the study sought to answers the following questions.
1. What is the level of parents and teachers’ roles and its impact on the process of learning of
the students?
2. Is there a significant difference in the level of parents and teachers’ role in student’s education
and its impact on the process of learning?
Hypothesis
The hypothesis will be raised in the study and will be tested at 0.05 level of significance.
Hₒ: There is no significant difference in the level of Parents and Teachers Roles in the
education of Students.
Definition of Terms
To understand the contents of the current investigations, the following terms are
operationally defined:
● Education
● Parents
● Roles
● Students
● Teachers
Significance of the Study
The study focused on explaining the Roles of Parents and Teachers in the education of
Students. Moreover, the results of the study will be beneficial to the following:
● Parents
● School
● Students
● Teachers
Data Analysis Procedure
The data gathered was treated by using statistical tools dealing with the significant level
of parents and teachers Roles in students’ education and its impact on the process of learning.
●Mean also known as the arithmetic mean, of a list of numbers is the sum of the entire
list divided by the number of items in the list.
● Standard deviation is the measure of the dispersion of data about a mean value
● t-test for correlated mean was used to measure the difference between the average
scores of a single sample of individuals who are assessed at two different times.
