STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
“Don't you ever let a soul in the world tell you that you can't be exactly who you are” – Lady
Gaga. This quote is not just a phrase to me. These are words to live by! Nothing has stopped
me from pursuing what I love to do, be it sports, academics or other fields of interest. I have
been interested in Management studies since my 2nd year of Engineering, and decided from
that moment onwards that I wanted to combine the knowledge of both—engineering and
management—to make a great career in the future.
Looking back at my Secondary School and High school (11th-12th Grade) background, I stood
at 9th rank in my final year (10th Grade) of Secondary school, and ranked 1st in the 12th
Grade. I was an enthusiastic member of WWF (Worldwide Fund for Nature) school club during
my Secondary school period. We put up exhibitions, led nature campaigns and organised
various activities with the goal of ‘Nature conservation’. I was also one of the co-ordinators
for the High School Annual Fest named “C'est la vie”, and was assigned to the HR
Department. I can proudly say that it was the first fest ever to be organised at my High
School and was a success. Indeed, we faced many challenges but that was perhaps the best
part—to come over each of those and yet make an impression. In my final year at Secondary
school I was nominated as the Sports captain of the school. These experiences and the initial
achievements helped me become more organised and imbibed in me the requisite leadership
qualities at that level.
Presently, I am studying in the Final Semester of my Bachelor’s Program. My scores for the
first three semesters were good – (an average of 70%) but I did not fair well in my 4th and 5th
Semesters. I probably lost focus on my studies. This could be due to the fact that I spent
more time participating in numerous additional activities during College—my College required
me to do so. I participated in a lot of football tournaments during that time and so did not
spare much time to academics. But with words of encouragement from my Mother, and my
determination to succeed in whatever I do, I fought back and started to work hard again
towards top scores. It paid off when I stood 7th in the sixth Semester held in May 2015. One
can be assured that I will work equally hard in my final semester and secure a higher score. I
know that I have personally been extremely good at learning new things and taking up
opportunities to develop new areas of interest—my learning process has never stopped.
I pursued an internship with ‘Quacquarelli Symonds Limited’ for the ‘QS World Grad School
Tour 2014’ in 2013-14. My experience as a marketing intern brought about holistic
development. Through this internship I was able to gauge my strengths regarding my
personality and it helped me sharpen my communication as well as management skills. This
exposure gave me a chance to be hands-on with the practical application of my education to
some extent and was a great learning experience. Not only did it help me discover the
diversity in Colleges and the subjects they offer, but also gave me an outlook on the Business
Management curriculum and prepared me to achieve the same in the future. I am very
grateful for this opportunity as I learnt a great deal about studies in Ireland, specifically about
your prestigious Institution.
Sports, especially football has always been a big part of my life. The sports I currently play
include Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Throwball, Swimming, Table Tennis and Athletics. I have
represented my secondary school, High School and College in various Football Tournaments. I
have won many intra-school and intra-college Football competitions. Apart from football, I
have excelled in Athletics. During my time at High School, I managed to bag 1 silver and 5
gold medals in events like Shotput, Long jump and 800m track race. Sports has not only
instilled in me the values of teamwork, determination and team spirit but also made me more
disciplined in life.
I have set certain goals, both short and long term; some relating to my personal life and some
to my life in the business world, which I will do my best to fulfill. Post-Masters, I wish to work
as a manager in any sector. I believe that in any line of work, the key to a business is how well
that business is managed from a personal development perspective. I feel that a master’s
course will help me attain this knowledge and provide me with the essentials of being a
successful manager on the various engagements I encounter throughout my career. 10 years
down the line, I wish to begin my own venture or company. I knew I wanted to learn more
about the world of business before beginning my own. I am looking forward to studying MSc in
Management to develop my knowledge and understanding of financial aspects of the business,
business management and financial accounting. Such an educational endeavor will compliment
my core competencies and equip me to utilize my knowledge and expertise towards building
world-class products that will solve a variety of business challenges and enable my clients to
create value.
