Tutorial Sheet 8 (30th Sept – 4th Oct : Week 11)
Last Date of submission: 11th October 2019
Instruction: Assume appropriate missing data if any.
Attempt any FIVE questions.
1. What is meant by Gradient and the Laplacian? Discuss their role in Image enhancement.
2. Interpret homomorphic filtering approach for image enhancement using necessary block
representation.
3. Formulate Gaussian low pass filter and Butterworth low pass filter using equations and plots.
4. State the conditions of transforms orthogonality. Three column vectors are given below
X1 = [ 1 1 1 ], x2 = [-2 1 1], x3 = [ 0 -1 1]. Show that they are orthogonal. Also generate all
possible patterns.
5. State and explain the properties of conjugate symmetry and periodicity as applied to two-
dimensional DFT.
6. Write short note on
i. Choice of DFT vs DCT for transform coding.
ii. Application of Slant and Walsh-Hadamard Transform.
7. Assuming square image arrays and the forward and inverse image transforms are separable
and symmetric, show that the forward and the inverse transforms can be expressed in matrix
form. What are the advantages of this formulation?
NB: Students are expected to discuss and solve the above Problems during the Tutorial classes
using Group discussion ‘teaching – learning’ methodology.
