Title of the Design Project
Air-conditioning system at Saint Patrick medical center
a. Types of building and location and service with reference to selected
architectural plan
b. Building description s to number of condition spaces, numbers of floors or
storeys and number of rooms that require ventilation services.
Acknowledgement
This design project was accomplished with the effort and cooperation of the all
members in the group. We would like to thank our professor Sir Jetsoni Asi for the
guidance, encouragement, and knowledge that helped us in finishing our design. Last
but not the least we would thank Gonzales, Jasper Nino P. Civil Engineering student
for providing us one of his designs.

Introduction
Hospital is a health care institution providing patient treatment with specialized staff
and equipment. The Saint Patrick medical center was designed with 3 floor plans
were the 3rd to 5th floors are alike. The ground floor consists of different room such
as the cashier, information area, and lobby were the patient can register or have a
file on the said hospital and to gain information related to the hospital. In addition,
emergency room must be located on the ground floor as a fast transaction or
injured and getting checkup when having a patient. There are additional rooms that
are located on the ground floor such as canteen, praying area, and pharmacy which
give an easy access for the visitors on the hospital. Second floor are made for the
patient to get the operation, record, and check up at the laboratories. 3rd to 5th
floor are mostly rooms having two different kinds of room are public and private
wards. Those rooms are occupied mostly after operations or someone in need to
be watched for couple days.
Proper Designing of air-conditioning units or system at the hospital is a must,
determining some patients need a comfort on the air inside and for safety of the
patients, this should be done by having an exact or accurate calculation of the air-
conditioning system.
Objectives of the Design
Determine the material used in walls and roof.
Classification and calculation of glasses in specific areas.
Computation of heat load in all floor.
Computation of heat load each or every zone.
Computation for ventilation system.
Computation of chilled water, ducting, and piping system.
Definition of Terms
Air conditioning – controlling properties of air so that the air
will be suitable for its intended use.
Psychrometry – study of the properties of air and its water
vapor content.
Psychrometer - It is an instrument of two thermometer, one to
measure the wet bulb temperature of air.
Psychrometry chart – are the graphic presentations of the
psychrometric properties of air.
Humidity – is the presence of moisture or water vapor in air.
Ventilation – the process of supplying or removing air by
natural or mechanical means to or from any space.
Dry bulb temperature – the actual temperature of the air.
Wet bulb temperature – the temperature of air if it is saturated.
Lamp rating – It is the life value assigned to particular lamp
type.
Relative humidity – It is the amount of water vapor in the air at
any given time is usually less than that required to saturate the
air.
Humidity ratio – It is the ratio of the weight of water vapor
contained in the sample compared to the weight of the dry air
in the same sample.
Humidity ratio – is the expression of mass of water vapor per
unit mass of dry air
Cooling tower – is a specialized heat exchanger in which air
and water are brought into direct contact with each other in
order to reduce the water's temperature.
Chiller – a machine that generate chilled water which is used
to provide air conditioning in buildings.
Daily range – it is the difference maximum and minimum of
daily temperature.
Air – is a mechanical mixture of gases and water vapor.

Climatic condition of the locality as to where the building is
constructed
1. Latitude on the earth surface
2. Longitude on the earth surface
3. Elevation of the site from the sea level
4. (summer condition) Maximum dry bulb temperature and the
corresponding wet bulb temperature
5. Daily range in the locality
6. Solar haze factor
