IMPACT OF INTERNET 2

The Internet has impacted the world today in various ways. Just like any other source of

information, services or entertainment, the internet has the good and the bad side of it which should

be understood and used appropriately. The internet is good in that it offers a platform for online

businesses such as e-commerce and e-banking to be conducted easily. People can purchase or sell

products right from their own home. The financial institutions also benefit from this since they are

able to money in a convenient, safer and faster way. Another major advantage is that it allows

people and organizations to easily share information as well as communicate through e-mails,

messages or any other social platform. Internet is also relevant for schools and universities

(Bulman and Fairlie, 2016). Students are able to get handy resources and materials for learning

new things and performing their projects efficiently through the internet. The Internet has

revolutionized the entertainment industry thus allowing people to easily download movies, games,

music or videos in a matter of a few minutes.

However, for all its positive aspects, the internet also has a dark side. Students accessing

the internet may be lured into risky behaviors such as pornography or being obsessed with video

games. Surfing through the web, using e-mail or social media platforms can easily expose them to

extremely inappropriate activities. The use of internet especially while doing any online activity

might be accompanied with issues of theft and privacy. Privacy violations potentially lead to

devastating financial loss. The Internet has also lead to issues of online bullying commonly known

as cyberbullying. Many individuals undergoing online bullying are pressured which make them be

emotionally weak. Some of them are unable to cope with the situation hence taking drastic steps

such as suicide.

In conclusion, the usage of internet has both good and bad aspects and therefore it’s upon

an individual to determine their stand. The more the risks of internet usage are known the more

people tend to take necessary precautions towards the risks although the risks cannot be fully
