The king
Rumpelstiltskin, the manikin
The messenger
[narrator] Once upon a time, there was a miller who had a beautiful daughter. One
day he went to the castle to make a very important request to the king.
[miller] Oh, Your Majesty, I have one request to make. I need the herald’s cornet to
take to the World Cup. I will give you my daughter in exchange.
[king] And why would I want your daughter?
[miller] Because she can spin straw into gold.
[narrator] So the king, who was very greedy, ordered the miller to bring his
daughter to the palace quickly so he could test her.
NEXT DAY
[miller] Here’s my daughter.
[king] Here’s your cornet.
(the king put the girl in a room full of straw)
[king] You can start to work now. You must spin all that straw into gold until dawn
or you’ll die.
(Esther cries uncontrollably)
[Esther]If daddy hadn’t gone to the World Cup, I wouldn’t be here.
(suddenly enters the manikin)
[manikin] Buenas noches, mistress! Why are you crying, young lady?
[Esther] I have to spin all that straw into gold, but I don't know how.
[manikin]What will you give me if I do this for you?
[Esther]My necklace.
(she hands him the necklace)
[narrator]So, the manikin worked all night, and by morning, when everything was
done, he went away.
NEXT DAY
(The king enters the room)
[narrator] When the king saw all that gold he was astonished...
[king] Oh!
[narrator] ...and even more greedy. He put the girl in another room quite full of
straw and commanded:
[king] If you value your life, you will spin all that straw into gold until dawn.
(Esther cries again – enters the manikin)
[manikin] What will you give me if I spin that straw into gold for you?
[Esther]This ring on my finger.
(she hands him the ring and once again the manikin works all night)
NEXT DAY
[narrator] On the third day, the king put the girl in a much larger room and said:
[king] If you spin all that straw into gold, you will be my wife.
(Esther crying again – enters the manikin)
[manikin] Again??? What will you give me if I spin all that straw into gold?
[Esther] But I don’t have anything anymore!
[Esther] Then I want your first child.
[narrator] Esther, who hadn’t no other way out, agreed.
(The manikin starts to work)
A YEAR LATER
(The manikin comes to take the queen’s daughter)
[Esther] You??? But you weren’t Argentinian? (talks with a puzzled face)
[manikin] (embarrassed) I don’t want to talk about it! I came to take what you
promissed me.
[Esther] No! I’ll give you all richness in this kingdom, but, please, don’t take my
daughter!
[manikin] After last events, my heart is very hard. Besides, something alive is
dearer to me.
[Esther] (begging) Please, please, don’t take my daughter.
[manikin] Alright. I’ll give you three days. If by that time you find out my name, I'll
let you keep the child.
[narrator] Quickly, the queen hired a messenger to find different names in all parts
of the kingdom.
(The queen talks to the messenger)
DAY ONE
[manikin] So, have you already found out my name?
[Esther] Would it be (football player’s name).
[manikin] No, they’re all wrong. You have two days left.
DAY TWO
(enters the manikin)
[manikin] So, have you already found out my name?
[manikin] Would it be (football player’s names)?
[manikin]No, no, that’s not my name. Remember, you just have one more day.
DAY THREE
[narrator] On the third day, the messenger returned and said:
[messenger] I have not been able to find a single new name. I was about to give in
when I came to a high mountain at the end of the forest. There I saw a little house,
and before the house a fire was burning, and round about the fire a ridiculous little
man was jumping and singing:
to-day I bake, to-morrow brew,
the next I'll have the young queen's child.
Ha, glad am I that no one knew that
Rumpelstiltskin I am styled
(the messenger leaves and enters the manikin)
[manikin] So, Queen, what’s my name?
[Esther] Would it be (football player’s names)? Or maybe your name is
Rumpelstiltskin?
[manikin] (very angry) How did you find out? CHICO XAVIER TOLD YOU THAT!!!
(suddenly the manikin disappears)
[narrator] The queen was very glad and she and the king lived happily ever after.
