Homemade Casein Glue from Milk

The document describes how to make homemade glue using milk. Milk is boiled with water and baking soda is added, which causes the casein in the milk to separate out. This casein material can then be strained and used as glue. The homemade glue made using this process is an effective alternative to commercial glues, as it is affordable and uses easily obtainable household materials. It provides students and others an inexpensive option for their gluing needs compared to expensive store-bought glues.

Homemade Glue out of milk

Homemade has been made in someone’s home, rather than in a shop or factory.

Which is more Effective the commercial ones or homemade glue which is only made of milk?

C. Procedure

This project aims to develop glue that will benefit the students, teachers, office workers and
other people who use glue in their works. With the developed product, students will no longer
need to buy expensive commercial glues from the market since they can readily create glue by
using milk. The finished product is also non-toxic sincethe materials used to create it are natural.
The introduction of the product may help lessen the demand for commercially produced glue
which often contains toxicpreservatives that may harm the environment or the product user.
Moreover, students may develop creativity skills in developing glue. The product also has a
potential of becoming a source of income for those who wanted to market it.

Glue is now so extensively used, and for so many different purposes, that it certainly deserves
much more intelligent treatment at the hands of users than it has received heretofore.

Without adhesives, we'd have a job making plasters stick to skin. In understanding of the sources
from which glue is derived and of the processes of manufacture will be found of practical
importance to the glue user. It will give many valuable side-lights on the proper methods of
preparation and handling. In ancient times, people made their glues from whatever they found
in the world , and jump in the air, we can "unstick" ourselves and go somewhere else. Second,
the water droplets also stick to the glass without any help or glue. Sometimes glue is simply a
commonality that keeps all the various firm systems running in decent working order.
Sometimes glue produces real revenue through cross selling and enhanced relationship building.
Sometimes glue is just that ineffable bond that keeps people from leaving

Statement of the Problem

The first evidence when glue used for the first time

dates back in 4000 B.C., Archaeologists found foodstuff with deceased when they were studying
burial sites of historical tribes in the pottery vessels, which were repaired by some sticky stuff of
tree sap. They also found ivory eyeballs into eye sockets in Babylonian temples. In our modern
time, glue may vary from industrial and commercial purpose toordinary glue used at home and
school. Glue is used to fix broken pieces or to bind different materials. Milk is a whitish liquid
containing proteins, fats, lactose, and various vitamins and minerals that is produced by the
mammary glands of all mature female mammals after they have given birth and serves as
nourishment for their young. Milk available in the market is processed into powdered from.

Glue is the chief topic in this investigatory project. Glue is widely used worldwide. From schools
to offices, from homes to buildings, glue is always present to help in individuals in their daily
lives. This material can be used in simple works or as an emergency utensil; from torn books to
stripped parts of paper works; this tool is very significant in our lives.
Glue is a sticky material (usually a liquid) that can stick two or more things together. Glue can be
made from plant or animal parts, or it can be made from oil-based chemicals. The first glues may
have been natural liquids that come out of trees when they are cut. Later people learned to
make glue by boiling animal feet, cartilage or bones. Some very strong glue is made from fish
bones, rubber or milk. Simple glue can be made at home by mixing wheat flour and water. This
glue will stick pieces of paper together. Many kinds of art can be made using glue. A collage is a
work of art made by using glue to stick colored things onto paper.

What are the advantages and benefits of adhesives?

METHODOLOGY

A casein material will begin to bubble. When this stops, use the leftover liquid as glue.

B. Materials

The study of the project of homemade glue is somewhat the same as what it is supposed to be.
The product is sticky and has quite the same qualities as the sources we have been researched
and found. It doesn’t have the appearance of the research but it is still edible for we have used
the same elements to construct the product. It tastes sweet at first but has a bit fairly poor
aftertaste.

This chapter presents the interpretation of the data gathered. The sequence of the data is based
from the statement of the problem and is shown in tabular form.

Of course , yes ! It’s easy to find the materials needed in making your own glue. Because the
materials needed can buy in near "sari-sari store" or even in the market.

Who can benefit in this Study?

The aspects were covered by the study is that students don’t to buy commercial glues which are
expensive. They can just make their own glue using milk and other ingredients which are only
found in the house.

It may take a couple of months to make.

The limitations of the study that we should know is that to make homemade glue using only
materials found in our house no need to buy expensive glue. Just make your own homemade
glue, it’s easy and affordable.

Are the ingredients easy to find? Can the people who will make this glue will afford the materials
needed?

Adhesive able to stick fast to a surface or object; sticky.

The goal of these experiments is To create a light, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly glue

such.

How to make glue from milk?

Glue is a sticky material (usually a liquid) that can stick two or more things together. Glue can be
made from plant or animal parts, or it can be made from oil-based ls.

The first glues may have been natural liquids that come out of trees when they are cut. Later
people learned to make glue by boiling animal feet, cartilage or bones. Some very strong glues
were first made from fish bones, rubber or milk.

A simple glue can be made at home by mixing wheat flour and water. This glue will stick pieces
of paper together. Many kinds of art can be made using glue. A collage is a work of art made by
using glue to stick colored things onto paper.

Some glues can be used to keep water out of boats, buildings or vehicles. In this case the glue
may be called caulk. Some man-made materials, including wood-like materials, are made using
glues to bind together small pieces of material or powders.

While many glues are safe, certain kinds of glue contain strong-smelling chemicals. Some people
sniff these glues to get high. Sometimes people breathe in the vapors by mistake. This is a very
bad idea because these chemicals are often poisons and may cause brain damage or illness.

Glue can also be made from rice or rice flour.

Use the spoon to press the clumps through the strainer, and release the liquid

Based on the conducted experiment , we recommend the following for further improvements ,
to have better results of extraction suggest that there would be longer minutes of boiling the
milk . We also recommend that one should make use of a large amount of baking soda so the
application of milk and baking soda would done easier.

We, the researchers, recommended that you should try our homemade glue. Why? Because it’s
just like a commercial glues and it is more effective. You should try making your own glue so that
incase of emergency that can make in a couple of hours.

Skimmed milk is made when all the cream (also called milk fat) is removed from whole milk.
Cartilage is a firm, whitish, flexible connective tissue found in various forms in the larynx and
respiratory tract, in structures such as the external ear, and in the articulating surfaces of joints.
It is more widespread in the infant skeleton, being replaced by bone during [Link] scientific
name of glue is “Cyanoacrylates”.

Cyanoacrylates are a family of strong fast-acting adhesives with industrial, medical, and
household uses. Cyanoacrylate adhesives have a short shelf life if not used, about one year from
manufacture if unopened, one month once opened. They have some minor toxicity.

Cyanoacrylates include methyl 2-cyanoacrylate, ethyl-2-cyanoacrylate commonly sold under

trade names such as "Super Glue" and "Krazy Glue"), n-butyl cyanoacrylate and 2-octyl
cyanoacrylate (used in medical, veterinary and first aid applications). Octyl cyanoacrylate was
developed to address toxicity concerns and to reduce skin irritation and allergic response.
Cyanoacrylate adhesives are sometimes known generically as instant glues or superglues
(although "Super Glue" is a trade name). The abbreviation "CA" is commonly used for industrial
grades.

What are the materials/ingredients needed to make a homemade glue?

Casein is the principle protein of milk. It accounts for approximately one third of the non-
aqueous (liquid) ingredients in cow’s milk, from which commercial casein is obtained. The casein
protein can be used to make glue and is also used in the manufacturing of various goods,
including fabrics, adhesives, plastics, and protective coatings.

In order to remove the casein from the milk, the product goes through a process called
precipitation. Essentially, the milk is heated and acid (vinegar) is added. As the heating takes
place, the casein content begins to shrink and expel moisture, producing clumpy white solid
curds and liquid whey. The next step in extracting the casein involves separating the whey from
the curd by filtering. After the separation, a baking soda solution is added to neutralize the acid.
The curd is then subjected to pressure to further remove the water content. When the moisture
content is reduced to an acceptable level, the curd is dried to form a hard, plastic-like protein
substance which can act as an adhesive .

Everybody can benefit from this study,. It can benefit the students when they need to paste their
test results in their notebooks. In making their school projects and they have projects to make in
their respective houses.

The people who will benefit from this home-made glue are the following:

1st are we, as a Student we all need glue to sticking our test results in our notebooks.

2nd is the people who works in the office might need glue because they use it as the paste their
finished product to be submitted to their boss.

3rd is the teachers, they will need in order to paste the students test result in the notebook.
The use of adhesives and glues as materials used to perform unions are in a phase of expansion
and boom, because they include the following advantages and benefits compared to other
joining methods:

The adhesives materials allows joint substrates with different geometries, sizes and composition.
With the adhesive we can joint glass, plastics, metals, ceramics ...

The use of adhesives eliminates the corrosion associated with dissimilar metals joining with
different galvanic potential, such as the joining of steel with aluminum.

The use of adhesive as bonding material does not produce any deformation in the materials or
substrates, eliminating metal grinding processes (grinding and putty), reducing the
manufacturing cost and improving the aesthetics of the product.

Do not produce any mechanical aggression to the substrate, avoiding any damage to the
structure of the material.

Great flexibility in the product design as well as an improvement in its aesthetics.

Reduction of the product weight, in the case of traction vehicles (cars, ships, locomotives ....)
weight reduction is directly linked to reducing energy consumption and pollutant emissions to
the environment.

Increasing the resistance to impact and fatigue resistance using elastic adhesive, increasing
reliability and product life cycle.

Homogeneous distribution of tensions throughout the union allowing the elimination of stress
concentrations that can lead to the fracture of the union.

Reduction of noise and vibration.

Reduction in the number of components such as screws, nuts, washers, rivets, etc ... necessary
for the union, reducing the manufacturing cost of the union.

Sealing function and protection against corrosion.

Special adhesives prepared to conduct electricity or electrical insulator, are usually used in the
field of electronics.

On the other hand, there are a number of processes / products that would be impossible to
manufacture without the use of adhesives, such as the tapes for masking process prior to
painting, repairing bicycle wheels, climalit style window with noise and temperature insulation,
placement of brackets on the teeth, tooth reconstruction, the office post it....

The knowledge of each of the various joining techniques currently available (adhesives, welding,
riveting, bolting, etc. ...), will allow us to select the optimal technique for each case in which we
want to join 2 or more parts, due each of these techniques has advantages and disadvantages
compare with the others

When we searched Google about the homemade glue, there were many related study. Some use
cassava flour in making glue some use Styrofoam, honey in making. When we found out that
milk can also be used as alternative glue combining with the other ingredients in making
homemade [Link] glue that we’ll be experimenting is called “Casein Glue.”Casein glue is the
name for a family of related phosphoproteins (αS1, αS2, β, κ). These proteins are commonly
found in mammalian milk, making up 80% of the proteins in cow milk and between 20% and 45%
of the proteins in human milk. Casein has a wide variety of uses, from being a major component
of cheese, to use as a food additive, to a binder for safety matches. As a food source, casein
supplies amino acids, carbohydrates, and the two inorganic elements calcium and phosphorus.

Milk is a white liquid produced by the mammary glands of mammals. It is the primary source of
nutrition for young mammals before they are able to digest other types of food. Early-lactation
milk contains colostrums, which carries the mother's antibodies to the baby and can reduce the
risk of many diseases in the baby. It also contains many other nutrients.

Worldwide, dairy farms produced about 730 million tons of milk in 2011. India is the world's
largest producer and consumer of milk, yet neither exports nor imports milk. New Zealand, the
European Union's 28 member states, Australia, and the United States are the world's largest
exporters of milk and milk products. China and Russia are the world's largest importers of milk
and milk products .Throughout the world, there are more than 6 billion consumers of milk and
milk products. Over 750 million people live within dairy farming households. Milk is a key
contributor to improving nutrition and food security particularly in developing countries.
Improvements in livestock and dairy technology offer significant promise in reducing poverty and
malnutrition in the world.

Vinegar Are liquids consisting mainly of acetic acid (CH3COOH,) and water. The acetic acid is
produced by the fermentation of ethanol by acetic acid bacteria. Vinegar is now mainly used as a
cooking ingredient, but historically, as the most easily available mild acid, it had a great variety of
industrial, medical, and domestic uses, some of which (such as a general household cleanser) are
still promoted today. There are many types of vinegar such as: coconut, cane balsamic, apple
cider and many more.

Is the chemical compound with the formula NaHCO3. Sodium bicarbonate is a white solid that is
crystalline but often appears as a fine powder. It has a slightly salty, alkaline taste resembling
that of washing soda (sodium carbonate). The natural mineral form is nahcolite. It is a
component of the mineral natron and is found dissolved in many mineral springs. It is among the
food additives encoded by European Union, identified by the initials E 500. Since it has long been
known and is widely used, the salt has many related names such as baking soda, bread soda,
cooking soda, and bicarbonate of soda. In colloquial usage, its name is sometimes shortened to
sodium bicarb, bicarb soda, or simply bicarb. The word saleratus, from Latin sal æratus meaning
aerated salt, was widely used in the 19th century for both sodium bicarbonate and potassium
bicarbonate. The term has now fallen out of common usage.
