Electromagnetic Induction Concepts

This document contains 10 questions regarding electromagnetic induction, alternating current circuits, and related concepts: 1. It asks to state Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction and Lenz's law, providing an example to illustrate Lenz's law and justifying it in terms of the conservation of energy. 2. It involves predicting the direction of induced current in two metal rings when the current in a nearby wire is steadily decreasing. 3. It describes a conducting rod moving through a magnetic field and asks for the expression of induced emf, the force required to move it, and the direction of induced current. 4. It asks for the expressions of maximum induced emf and power dissipation in a rotating coil in

IMPORANT QUESTIONS FOR CBSE-2019

UNIT-4
EMI & AC
1. State faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction.
2. State lenz’s law. Give one example to illustrate this law. The lenz’s law is a consequence of
the principle of conservation of energy. Justify this statement.
3. Predict the direction of induced current in metal rings 1 and 2 when current I in the wire is
steadily decreasing?

4. A conducting rod PQ, of length l, connected to a resistor R, is moved at a uniform speed v,

normal to a uniform magnetic field B, as shown in ht figure.

(i) Deduce the expression for the emf induced in the conductor.
(ii) Find the force required to move the rod in the magnetic field.
(iii) Mark the direction of induced current in the conductor.
5. A coil of number of turns N, area A is rotated at a constant angular speed  , in a uniform
magnetic field B and connected to a resistor R. Deduce expressions for
(i) Maximum emf induced in the coil.
(ii) Power dissipation in the coil.
6. Define the term self-inductance of a solenoid. Obtian the expression for the magnetic energy
stored in an inductor of self-inductance L to build up a current I through it.
7. Define the term self-inductance of a solenoid. Obtian the expression for the magnetic energy
stored in an inductor of self-inductance L to build up a current I through it.
8. What are eddy currents? Write their two applications.
9. (i) Derive an expression for the average power consumed in a series L-C-R circuit connected
to AC source for which the phase difference between the voltage and the current in the circuit
.
(ii) define the quality factor in an AC circuit. Why should the quality factor have high value
in receiving circuits? Name the factors on which it depends.
10. (i) A series L-C-R circuit is connected to an AC source of variable frequency. Draw a
suitable phasor diagram to deduce the expressions for the amplitude of the current and phase
angle.
(ii) Obtain the condition at resonance. Draw a plot showing the variation of current with the
frequency of AC source for two resistances R1 and R2(R1>R2). Hence, define the quality
factor Q and write its role in the tuning of the circuit.
