About EHS Awards

Businesses in India are no longer putting in place Environment,
Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives as a matter of compliance but as
a means to enhance their global standing, protect employees, and
behave responsibly towards society and the environment.
In developed countries, all places of work - industries, offices,
universities, medical institutions, government and social
organisations adhere to Environment, Health & Safety (EHS)
standards. But in India, an estimated 82% workplaces do not
comply with EHS norms, according to a cross-sector survey of
done recently. There is, however, a growing consciousness of the
need to comply with EHS requirements. The survey found that all
sectors uniformly increased their EHS budgets over the last few
years.
More than a decade, the Confederation of Indian Industry is
recognising the companies with innovative and best practices in
EHS through the CII-SR EHS Excellence Awards.
With this background, CII Southern Region is announcing the 12th
Edition of CII-SR EHS Excellence Awards 2019.

Objectives
To recognize, motivate and facilitate, corporates to adopt
innovative practices in EHS.
The endeavor is to enable corporates to follow "path-
breaking" practices rather than mere "bench marking".
The Award has been instituted to acknowledge extraordinary
contribution by the organizations towards:
Conserving critical environmental resource
Handling occupational health and hygiene issues
Promoting best practices in Safety to improve performance
and productivity
Facilitating Innovative & efficient management practices in
EHS

Eligibility Criteria
Companies can apply if they are:
Operating in South India (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala,
Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu and Telangana)
A large, medium, small, micro-sized enterprise or
independent unit/division
From manufacturing or service and infrastructure sector
Manufacturing & Services - Operating in South India for 2
or more than 2 years
Infrastructure - Construction site in South India 1 or more
than 1 year

Assessment Objectives
Objective of EHS Assessment for an organization is to identify
the EH&S implementation methodology for all of their identified
stakeholders and level of implementation
To have an unbiased and common framework of evaluation
across industries.
The external audit is also a measurement of how well an
organization's EHS management system is being implemented
throughout all areas of the workplace.
An expert panel to evaluate the performance basis the common
assessment criteria.
The method of assessment would also help the participating
organization to get a feedback on their EHS practices.
To gather and provide a platform to share unique best practices
which are typical to their work culture and help larger industry
forum to excel in EHS Practices.

How to Apply?
Fill and submit the application form provided in the website:
[Link] to confirm your site/unit’s
participation.
For multiple site/units’ participation from the same
organisation, submit the application form separately for each
site/unit
Once you apply for the award, user name password will be sent,
which is to be kept carefully for future use.
Pre-assessment dossier to be uploaded on the website only. No
hard copy to be sent to CII.
Upload - Logo, Pre-assessment Dossier, Best Practices Videos,
Digital Practices. CII will intimate if more to be uploaded.
Download - Presentation Template for On-Site Assessment,
Documents to be shown to the Assessor during On-Site
Assessment, Other Organisation Presentation*, Feedback
Report* (Will be available after Award Ceremony)

meant to give the assessors a flavor of the site prior to on site
assessment and saves time too.
Copy of the EHS policy of the site
Name of the persons responsible for Statutory and Legal
compliance related to EHS (for interactions during the on site
assessment)
Annexure/list of statutory and legal requirements that are
applicable to the site
Copy of the site procedure for carrying out the EHS risk assessment
(aspect-impact study/HIRA)
List of objectives and targets/EHS annual plans for the year and the
status
Copy of the site EHS clearance/approval/authorisation procedure
for handling any changes (process change, modification, addition
etc)

3 awards will be given based on the number of companies
participating in each sector
Best Practices Awards
The companies which are exceptionally innovative in Environment
or Health or Safety will be awarded
CII-EHS Star Rating
All assessed companies will be awarded star rating, based on their
below mentioned score. This is a continuous assessment indicator
with the highest award being 5 Star rating.
CII EHS 5 Star- Excellent
CII EHS 4 Star- Commitment
CII EHS 3 Star- Appreciation Others will get certificate of
participation
Consistent Performance Award
The companies who had received 5 Star for three consecutive
years will receive this award.

About the Assessor Training Programme
In order to strengthen and raise standards of the CII-SR EHS
Excellence Awards, CII Southern Region is pleased to announce
the CII-SR EHS Excellence Awards Assessor Training Programme.
This training programme aimed at developing skills for assessing
the effectiveness of various management approaches and their
deployment for achieving EHS Excellence.
Objectives
To get an integrated view of management for EHS Excellence and
meet the increasing business challenges.
To equip the participants with the necessary management and
assessment skills for measuring the effectiveness of various
management initiatives taken by an organization towards EHS
Excellence.
To prepare potential assessors for the CII-SR EHS Excellence
Award.

Award Assessor Training

Benefits
To train more EHS Professionals on this model, and enhance the
quality of assessment of EHS Excellence Award. This is essentially a
peer assessment framework.
Apart from having an understanding and learning of the model, the
EHS Assessors will get an opportunity to study the internal systems
and practices of other companies during the site visit.
The assessors will also get an opportunity to interact with senior
professionals to get deeper insights into business and EHS
processes.
This two-day workshop (non-residential) is aimed at developing
skills for assessing the effectiveness of various management
approaches and their deployment for achieving EHS Excellence.
The course is newly designed and is aligned with the EFQM
Excellence Model.
Assessors' company can apply for the award

Course Flow
The training would be for 1 ½ days.
Day-2 Post Lunch, examinations will be conducted.
Upon completing the training, the participants would be provided
with the star rated certification and this is valid for 2 years.
Who Should Attend?
This training programme is a must for all the EHS professionals,
leading the change process in their organizations to become
globally competitive and progress towards achieving EHS
Excellence.
It is particularly beneficial to EHS Heads and middle level EHS
professionals as this gives them the opportunity to learn the best
practices across the industry first hand.
