“A Study of Management Information System with reference to Banking Industry in India”

INTRODUCTION :

MIS Means Management information system, use and manage information systems to revitalize

business process, improve business decision making with information technologies. Gain

competitive advantage on the market. Management Information System (MIS) is needed. To

proceed towards the making of a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation System, the first stage

is to develop a monitoring and evaluation framework at the departmental level so that the existing.

Monitoring and evaluation systems can be streamlined and the future development of the new

systematic monitoring and evaluation systems at the field level is guided. The MIS provides a

framework for the monitoring and evaluation of the biodiversity conservation program of

protected areas so that the information need at the central level like the National Planning

Commission (NPC), MFSC, DNPWC and donors can be fulfilled by using the framework for

collecting information.

Management Information System (MIS) is a system that helps management in making, carrying

out and controlling decisions. In effect, a project/ program monitoring system is a Management

Information System that provides information for making decision by the management.

Key elements:

 Internet technologies as platform for business and commerce.

 Collaboration processes among all business stakeholders in networked enterprises.

Global markets and the international dimension.

 Decision support in Business and Banking.

 an approach to computing, systems and information channels

 Information technologies and Banking applications.

OBJECTIVES OF STUDY:

The MIS of Bank whose branches are so well-spread becomes a pivotal point of study

as it caters to many segments of the society (urban and rural) and offering a diversified portfolio

of services like credit cards, loans, bank accounts, etc... Thus, it becomes absolutely essential for

a bank to maintain an accurate mass record of all transactions of every individual or corporate.

One cannot ignore the fact that every record / data should have a reliable back-up in case of any

uncertainty like System Crashing’, ‘Virus Affected’, etc. Better-relate to our theoretical

knowledge Better understanding of a renowned company which uses MIS extensively and forms

a part of its core activities, without the efficient management of which it would become Gain

knowledge on the different types of MIS used in various departments for diverse activities

appropriately.

While computers cannot create business strategies by themselves, they can assist

management in understanding the effects of their strategies and help enable effective decision-

making. MIS systems can be used to transform data into information useful for decision making.

Computers can provide financial statements and performance reports to assist in the planning,

monitoring and implementation of strategy. MIS systems provide a valuable function in that they

can collate into coherent reports. Unmanageable volumes of data that would otherwise be broadly

useless to decision makers. Not only do MIS systems allow for the collation of vast amounts of

business data, but they also provide a valuable time saving benefit to the workforce. Where in the

past business information had to be manually processed for filing and analysis it can now be

entered quickly and easily onto a computer by a data processor, allowing for faster decision

making and quicker reflexes for the enterprise as a whole.

IMPORTANCE/ NEED OF MANAGEMENT INFORMATION

SYSTEM IN BANKING:

• Regulatory requirements indicated by the RBI for preparation of Off-site Monitoring

Surveillance (OSMOS) Reports on a regular basis in electronic format

• Need for timely submission of Balance Sheets and Profit & Loss Accounts

• Need for Inter-Branch Reconciliation of Accounts within a definite time frame

• Need to undertake risk management strategies and for this purpose build up appropriate

sets of data and market intelligence reports.

This paper describes advantages of using Management Information Systems in IT departments in

the banking sector. Such solutions are gathering full information about IT services and assets. Full

information means data regarding resources, type, configuration, relations with other assets,

business priority, owners, costs, changes, subcontractors, performance etc. The solution is

showing the “big picture” – the full view on the infrastructure and IT services. This approach is

giving the management a complete view of the IT service’s situation, which helps in taking the

right operational and strategic decisions. This type of solution is crucial in organizations, the

business of which strongly depends on IT. A good example of such organizations is banks.

Nowadays, their existence is impossible without IT solutions.

RATIONALE FOR THE STUDY:

 Manual procedures

 If your data is update data and correct data then you will record correct mis otherwise

you will received wrong output.

HYPOTHESES:

There will be two major financial measurements hypotheses evaluated in this research. They are:

H#1

H0: Significantly MIS system is saving time were we will find out current status of organization.

H1: Significantly MIS system is not saving time were we will find out current status of

organization.

H#2

H0: Significantly making within an enterprise than would be possible without MIS system.

H1: Significantly making within an enterprise than would not be possible without MIS system.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:

Sample size: 100 employees from Banks. Sources of Data:

1) Primary Data: The data will be collected through primary and secondary sources. The

primary data will be collected by administering a questionnaire and through interaction

with Stewards, Front Office Assistants, Sr: Managers, Manager, & Front Office Manager

of the Banks.

2) Secondary Data: will be collected from the Bank’s website, records, manuals, brochures,

annual reports, etc.

3) Tools of Data Analysis: Statistical tools will be used in the form of Pi-Charts, Graphs

and Diagrams.

METHODS OF DATA COLLECTION:

I chose both the data collection method for study of the project. i.e. Primary and

secondary data collection method.

In case of primary data, the data collected through questionnaires provided answers by the

members that I visited & also take the telephonic interview.

In case of secondary data, the data collected through:

1. Books

2. Various publications

3. Websites

SAMPLING:
I have selected the topics i.e. Management Information system in banking industry so

that I can know more about management information system in banking industry as it will be

helpful for me to grow in my career as I am from Accounts and finance sector.

LIMITATION OF STUDY:

As management information system in banking industry is a vast sector so it has no

limitations

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTION:

Gain knowledge on the different types of MIS used in various departments for diverse

activities appropriately. Better understanding of a renowned company which uses MIS

extensively and forms area for further research.
