Present: Akiko Toda (AT), Eve Bonner (EB), Wing Ying Chow (YC), Natalie Barry
(NB), Rebecca Rewbury (RR), Marina Steketee (MS), Ola Janusz (OJ).
Absent: Izzi Boanas-Evans (IB)
Apologies:
Izzi Boanas-Evans apologizes for absence.
Proceedings:
Constitution:
YC summarizes changes made to the Constitution, as outline in previous meeting.
New Constitution approved by the Committee.
Budget:
AT announces deadline for JCR budget proposals – Friday 29th October. Budget
meeting is Saturday 30th October, attendance strongly encouraged.
YC and AT have asked for contribution from MCR as more graduates are
participating in rowing. A ‘gift’ of £250 annually was proposed by AT to contribute
to races, but has been rejected. YC is attending MCR meeting to discuss this matter
further. The MCR would like to reimburse the BC for races at the end of each term,
according to how many graduates have participated in races throughout the term. AT
would prefer a gesture each term due to the likelihood of late payments, but YC is
adamant that the MCR cannot afford this due to their budget and proposes that the
MCR agree to ensure payments are made on time. YC will report back to Committee
members after the MCR meeting.
AT, NB and EB will formulate a list of core races to aid payments from the MCR, and
in preparation for JCR budget meeting.
Due to the bursar leaving within the week, AT predicts payments from college will be
a lot slower, which needs to be taken into account for projected expenditure and
scheduled payments such as ‘Annual Subscriptions’ in the new budget.
College will cover ‘Annual Subscriptions’, including changes due to inflation, and
grant £3000 each year for equipment, repairs, coaching etc. College will also cover
Boatman costs. AT is still awaiting a response from College regarding increasing
Boatman’s contracted hours due to significant overtime in 2009-2010.
AT proposes that race costs and other fees are made up through members’ subs and
asking novices to make a contribution to races. Proposed subs for novices - £12.
Novice coaching:
YC and EB outline novice-coaching schedule for the coming week.
Core races:
EB has verified the list of core races, which will be added to the Constitution.
Queens’ Ergs:
YC requires NB to write cheques for 3 boats to be entered, (£57 per boat).
Next issue of ‘Neptunes’:
Bal Ubhi will be contacted regarding articles on novice coaching and contributions to
next issue.
Next issue is predicted to be at the end of this term. IB will be contacted regarding an
article on trialling for the University boat.
New VIII research:
EB has discussed new VIII with the Boatman and researched prices.
Estimated costs:
‘Oxbridge Boats’ & ‘Swift’ (with delivery costs): £10,000
‘Filippi’ & ‘Stampfli’ - £17,000
£17,500 to £23,000 is required from a sponsor to replace ‘Harald’.
‘Fairbairns’ Dinner:
OJ and MS will make contact with College in order to contact alumnae to invite to
the dinner.
Cupboard inventory:
AT has sorted out the cupboard, 12/13 bottles of wine were found.
EB asked whether these could be used for pre-drinks for Fairbairns Dinner. MS and
OJ will see if College permits people to bring their own alcohol to the event.
Kit update:
NB informs Committee that the new kit is currently being designed and awaits an
email confirming date of completion.
Eve’s ‘club outing’:
EB proposes a trip to London during next training camp. General Committee
consensus. Provisional date is decided as 13th January (Thursday of training camp).
Swaps:
MS & OJ are currently trying to organize swaps for senior and novice crews.
Churchill novice swap and senior swaps with Robinson and Homerton in the pipeline.
Proposed date for next Committee Meeting:
Budget meeting on 28th October (only NB, AT, EB and YC are compulsory
attendees).
Committee meeting 3: Monday 15th or 22nd November. TBA.
