It is necessary to take all precautions to verify the block section is free of vehicles before the Reset operation is carried out in the system . The procedure is given below in clauses 2.2.11 & 2.2.12 for reset operation. This operation and the working rules of Railways to be followed strictly for reset of the axle counter. Reset Button: (Reset Co-op from sending end) A Reset Co-operation Push Button is provided on the SM's Panel. The receiving end S.M requests the reset Co-operation for resetting of Axle Counter after his verification of the last train passed in the section, The sending end SM presses the Reset Co-operation Push Button on the Panel. This will actuate one of the Multiplexer Relays on receiving end and is indicated by Yellow LED glow. This permits the receiving end SH to Reset the Axle Counter. Resetting of The Axle Counter: (Receiving end) I. During Installation & Commissioning The Resest is applied in Axle Counter by pressing the Key actuator Push Button after the reset co-operation is obtained as given {n clause 2.2.11. The section verification is not required and the reset is applied in a normal course Il, After Axle Counters are Commissioned: Uhen the train has been received at the receiving the "Line Occupied" red indication remains on the This indication do not go back to “Line Free™ condition on the S's Panel. In such cases the receiving end SM verifies the Block Section by checking the last vehicle of the ain at the station and initiates the following action. (a) When Last Vehicle of the Train 1s observed The receving em SM requests the Reset Co-operation from Preceding statia as per clause 2.2.11. after obtaining the Reset Co-operation by means of Yellow LED indication available on Paml, the SM inserts the key and presses the reset key actuator provied on the Panel. As scon as the Reset Relay in Awe Counter is actuated the Axle Counter becomes tesetted. when the key actuator is released in the SM's pand, the counter increments by one count only on successful reet of Axle Counter. The sending end reset co-operation is also to be withdrawn later. After above Procedure, the &le Counter gets resetted and Line Free indication of blak section is available on the panel. The Block section alst comes to ‘line closed condition on panel. The Line clear tor next train movement may be. taken in a normal manner wit# out the observation of caution order. (b) When Last whicie of the Train not obser When LV check isnot observed by the receiving end SM the procedure for Remt of Axle Counter given above is followed but with the next train is allowed on full caution order as per the Railway Wrking rules for movement of train in the block sections. Cases-2: (Axle Canter failed without any train movement in the block sectionk In case of the Mle Counter failure with out any train movement in the block section due to any one of the following reasons 1. TX/RX Coil Braken/damaged on track side. 2. Failure of rds in Junetion Box & Axle Count Evaluator. 8. Failure of Admnce/Home track Circuits. 2-8 In these extra » ordinary conditions of failure the ESH may be called to attend the failure. After achieving the rectification of fault , the SM of receiving end follows the resetting procedure and the Axle Counter is resetted. He also checks that there is no train in the section during this period. Then Line clear for the next Train is taken and is sent on full caution order . Case: In all the other cases of emergency such as train derailment in block section etc. the Axle Counter block working should be suspended and the system is not to be resetted unless the accident is cleared and block section is brought to normal [Link] the Railway Working Rules should be followed in such emergencies. Resistor R2 provides the correct matching impedance for the 4W/2W output and also the [Link] needed for correctly biasing the transistor QS. Transistor Q3 and Q4, diodes D2 and D3 and the associated components provide a diode compensated complimentary push-pull amplifier. The FSK-signal output (not used) of the transmitter unit of the Block-—Multiplexer on the other hand is fed at EURO connector Pin No.28C. The transistor G6 and Q7, diodes D4 and DS, resistors R36, R97, RIS and RS4 form another diode compensated complimentary push-pull amplifier for the FSK signal. The output of the two amplifiers are combined in the output coupling transformer T3. The secondary of output transformer TS is connected to the transmit pair of Block-Quad and the signal launched here is a composite-output signal with SkH2, 3.5KHz and the FSK signals as constituents. These analog (sinewave) signals separated in the frequency spectrum can co-exist without mutually interfering with each other. o The composite signal is transmitted as the final output of the system for exchange of all the relevant information with the distant station in the same block. e) COMPOSITE SIGNAL~IN' UFFER In this segment of the combiner converter card the composite signal received from the diatant station over the ‘receive-pair' of the BLOGK QUAD is fed through the coupling transformer TI. Resistor R23 provides impedance matching for the receive pair of the cable in a fail safe manner. The DC biasing of the circuit is built around transistor Q2 and is available only through R23. Attenuation of the input signal in R9-Ri1 combination is suitably compensated by amplification in @2 and the signal is available as output of the emitter follower built around transistor Qi. Any defect in the circuit components results in either the transistor going off or into saturation. In all such abnormal cases the signal output reduces greatly. This signal at the output of the buffer at EURO connector Pin No.19C is a combination of SKHz, 3.5KHz and the FSK signal. To recover the signals separately, this composite signal is fed to the Two Filter Cards as shown in the 'BLOCK-DIAGRAM’ [Link].BOO4595A A3. a) kHz OSCILLATOR A 8.5KH2 Sinewave oscillator is configured around 1¢-3 (4R2298) and with associated components. The Resistor net work of R42 to R4d provides the desired 8.5kKHz frequency with capacitor cat. e) EREQUENCY CONVERTER : This is built around the double balanced modulator 1C:1C-2. At pin-@ of this IC, the 8.5kHz sinewave signal is fed through resistor combination R81 through R84. The 9.5KHz channel~11(B) signal available as output of the 3.5kHz filter card is fed at Pin-1 of 1¢-2. This double balanced modulator IC working on the 8.5KH2 and the 3.5KHz inputs produces a frequency pair of 12kHz (8.5KHz+9.5KHz) Component and SKHz (8.5KH2-3.5KH2) component. This combination of 12KHz and 5KHz frequencies is available at EURO- connector Pin No.6C. This output is fed into the SKHz Filter-2 :, COMB:5 module for eventual recovery of the axle-counter channel-I1 signal. +1.2 S.0KHz FILTER-1 CARD MODULE:CONB-4 + [Link]. 5004456 This is a 5.0kHz recovering the SKHz channel-signal from the composite Block-signal L-C tuned 4 stage band pass filter card-used for input. The composite Block-signal input is fed to this card at EURO PIN No.12C through an input buffer of the combiner converter card. This input to start with is @ combination of SkKHz and [Link] axlecounter channel signals, the FSK signal and some noise picked up in the Block cable which is the transmission medium. The individu! filter stages are built around transistors Q5, a6, Q4 and Q2 each with a tuned collector circuit. Inductor L4 and capacitors Cil and C12 form the first tuned circuit, of which Cit is the main capacitor and C12 an additional one put in circuit in case the normal inductor adjustment (trimmer) of L& is not adequate for proper tuning. Likewise inductors L3 and capacitors €9 and C1@ form the second tuned stage, inductor L2 and capacitors C7 and cO form the third tuned stage and inductor Li and capacitors C5 and C6 form the fourth tuned stage. All inductors are suitably air-gapped and all are nominally alike to start with. Howovor the oxact tuning is done through positioning of the inductance adjustment trimmer depending on the actual value of the associated parallel capacitor. Once tuned, the inductance adjusters are sealed at the correct tuning position in the card testing stage. Hence neither the capacitors nor the inductors should be changed in the field at random solely on the merit of the nominally rated value. To ensure fafl-safety, the resistors forming the collector load for proper gain and bandwidth setting of each tuned stage are also used to act as the DC biasing resistors for the next stage. Thus any defect in the circuit components result in either complete disconnection of signal or at least the next transistor goes out of its active (high-gain) region resulting in an attenuated signal output to the next stage. Transistors Q1 and Q3 and the associated components form a diode stabilized push-pull complimentary amplifier. The output of this card is available at EURO Pin No.6C and 16¢ and can also be monitored at sockets SK-1 and SK-2 (on the front-plate of the card module). Thus the [Link] channel signal, the FSK signal and the noise componente present at the input of this card get progressively filtered out and a high purity SKHz-channel signal is recovered. This signal is then fed te the relevant channel input (generally channel-A) of the evaluator of the Block axle counter. The output of this card is available at the MS coupler in the rear of the enclosure. [Link] S.5KHz FILTER + [Link]. 004456 CARD MODULE :COMB:3 This is a 3.5KHz LC-tuned 4-stage Band pass filter card used for revovering the [Link] component of the composite signal available on the receiver-pair of the BLOCK QUAD. The composite Block-signal is fed to thie card at EURO-Pin No.12C through an input buffer of the combiner converter card. The input signal at this point is a combination of the SKHz and 3.5KHz axle-counter channel signals, the FSK-signal and some noise picked up in the Block-cable. Lay-out of the card and the general arrangement of components are identical to the SKHz Filter Card described earlier. However to obtain a Central tuning frequency of 3.5KKz and also to provide correct overal! bandwidth of the filter card, tuning components and loading/biasing resistor values are different as shown in the list of components. For a general understanding of the circuit working description given for SKHz~ Filter-1 is valid except that the tuning frequency is to be read as 3.5KH2. All the frequencies except the 3.5KHz component get. progressively filtered out as the signal flows through the tuned amplifier chain, At the output pins No.6C and 18C a high purity 3.5KHz axle counter channel signal appears. This signal can be monitored at sockets SK-1 and SK-2 on the front plate of the card module. This [Link] channel signal, however cannot be directly used in the evaluator of the Axle Counter. This is therefore fed to the frequency converter section of the combiner card (COMB-2). In the combiner converter card the 3.5KH2 signal modulates an [Link] oscillator present on the same combiner converter card to produce the 12KHz (8.5KHz43.5KHz) and the SKHz (8.5KHz-3.5KHz) frequency-pair. The SKHz component of the frequency pair is recovered by using another card namely SkKH2- Filter-2 + COMB-5. 3-11 [Link] SKHZ-FILTER-2:COMB-5: [Link]. 904456 This SKHz Filter-2 Card is exactly identical and inter changeable with the SKHz Filter-1 Card. The different Module number here simply signifies that the card occupies the Sth slot in the 2U/4U enclosure. The input at EURO-Pin 12¢ for this card is a combination of 12KHz and SKHz frequencies from the output of the converter portion of the combiner converter card. The 12kHz component of the combination gets progressively atenuated and the SkHz high-purity signal appears at EURO Pins 6C and 19C. This SkHz signal is fed into the relevant channel of the evaluator of the Axle-Counter. This signal can also be monitored at sockets SK-1 and SK-2 on the front-plate of the card module. 3-12 46 INSTALLATION installation of S.M's panel : The station master's panel of axle counter block system is a table top model and consists of all the controls for double line block working. The SM's panel is to be installed in SM's/ASM's/cabin to suit the requirement of railways for each block section. The SM's panel is recommended to be installed in such a way so that the marked layouts of TGT/TCF provided on the SH's panel is in parallel to the existing rail direction. This will give the actual site directional indication to the concerned station master/eabin man while operating the panel. But if space or any other constrains prohibits the use of SM's panel in the above fashion it {s upto the railways to decide and get the SM's pane! installed as per the requirements. Also the SH's panel is to be installed at a distance not greater than 25mtrs. from the relay rack of axle counter block system. 4 The size of the SM's panel is 500mm (width) x 330mm (height) x 380mm (depth) and is provided with an M.S angle base with slots for fixing the SM's panel firmly to the table. Position the SM's panel on the table and make 4 holes on the table matching the slots of M.S. angle. Caution : Battery bank (+249) supply connections to be made only at the final stage i.e. after completing and checking of all wiring. COMMISS JON ING The commissioning of the system must be attempted after installation is completed as per details given in preceding chapters. The commissioning of the Axle Counter System has to be done in the following manner. The procedure for new block section installations in new railway lines or for replacement of convential SGE type block instruments with Axle Counter Block System is similar. In the first phase after the system installation is completed the parallel working is achieved. But before that, 1. Correctness of wiring of the system at both the stations is checked. 2. The polarity of 24V battery as per the system wiring details is checked. 3. After ensuring the correctness of wiring, ‘Power on’ the system. The system is brought to parallel operation step by step as given later. The system is run on parallel operation in automode for 2 to 3 days for satisfactory working. The High Speed as well as slow speed trains in the section are monitored for correctness of counts in the Axle Counter and achievment of all block conditions in S.M.'s Panel on both sides. In the second phase, the system is commissioned for regular working and use, The system is then handed over to maintenance. Both the stations should be manned by authorised staff for commissioning the system. Ensure that the Block Section is clear when the system is under commissioning. COMMISSIONING PROCEDURE : Proceed as per following sequence of operations for commissioning the system. i) Connect power supply. Ensure proper feed is reaching relay rack, evaluator and field side location boxes. Power supply limit + 24¥ (- 19% + 20%). The combiner/converter and SM's panel at both stations are directly energised from the relay rack through Fuse Fi & F3 respectively. When power is fed to SH's panel both 'TGT* and ‘TCE! acknow- ledgement alarms will start sounding simultaneously. The alarm will have to be acknowledged by operating respective push button switches. Carry out the commissioning of EJB/EJB with 4U/2¥ card and axle counter evaluator at both stations as per the details given in axlecounter installation manual. The minimum combined output of EJB with 4U/2U card should be atleast 1.0V rms. The output of EJB with 4U/2U card will normally be around 1.2V to 1.6U rms. If the output is less then it has to be increased by readjusting the position of Tx and Rx transducers intalled in the advance starter track circuit at the same time ensuring proper adjustment of ‘DIP*. By operating push button switches given in the relay rack energise following relays at both stations. ar AMR (Despatch) bb BCR {Reception) ©) AMR (Reception) a » IMPORTANT.
