Project description
This project’s goal is to contribute to a diverse and tolerant society in Myanmar where freedom of religion
and belief is protected and respected. The project aims to improve relations between ethno-religious groups
and promote intercultural dialogue by building the competence of FoRB in communities, engaging youth in
interfaith groups and creating other platforms for out-group dialogue and collaboration. The project seeks to
contribute to creating and reforming FoRB(Freedom of Religion and Belief) policies and laws by engaging
and providing space for coordinated action, capacity building for political and religious leaders and
producing briefing papers on discriminatory laws against religious minorities.
Position purpose
Take overall responsibility to guide the project to meet agreed objectives by working closely with Myanmar
YMCA and reporting to donor.
Specific tasks and responsibilities
The Project Manager helps to foster the overall life and mission of the organization by managing the day-to-
day operations of the office and ensuring coordination of structures and resources to meet the goal of the
project for Interfaith and Community. The role affords the opportunity to work alongside the Youth Secretary
to actively develop strategy for the interfaith community, specifically with regards to policy and civic
engagement. The position primarily encompasses project management, strategic planning, and nonprofit
operations work. The Project Manager will work out of our Myanmar YMCA office here in Yangon. Some
domestic travel may also be required. This is a mid-career position that includes a non-negotiable monthly
salary of MMK 800,000.
Project management and decision-making
Work closely with Myanmar YMCA to ensure contractual requirements are met, project is aligned with
NYMCA strategy and policies, is on track and delivers good practice.
Coordinate all activities and communications with partners and associates in project locations.
Together with the Project Finance Officer, manage the in-country project budget to ensure that project
activities are delivered within the agreed budget, including monthly monitoring of budget expenditure
and support to Project Finance Officer in production of financial reports and budget forecasts
Develop strong working relationships with representatives from beneficiary groups, partners,
stakeholders, external consultants.
Maintain close correspondence (in English language) with funding bodies and email.
Effectively share management and decision-making responsibilities with project-level staff team.
Commit necessary hours beyond regular 40hrs per week to ensure completion of tasks and project
achievement.

Performance management and M&E
Promote a learning environment where staff can discuss project implementation, challenges and
lessons.
Identify project and field team capacity building needs and develop capacity building strategies.
Develop and implement effective systems for performance management and M&E, with regular travel
to field locations to check utilization and conduct monitoring.
Ensure participatory M&E to ensure an understanding of locally perceived impact and problems.
Produce accurate narrative reports and, together with Finance Officer for financial reports to donor in
timely manner.
Ensure all project documentation is in line with donor requirements.
Experience
Minimum 3 years experience of managing projects.
Minimum 2 years experience of developing the Rights of Faith Minorities programs.
Experience of developing and implementing effective systems for M&E and performance
management.
Experience of effective financial management of projects (with support from finance staff).
Experience of effectively delegating management and decision-making responsibilities.
Qualifications and skills
Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree or related disciplines.
Prior experience in clinical supervision of staff.
Demonstrated experience in management and innovative leadership.
Demonstrated experience in networking and partnerships with external organisations.
Proven ability to work as part of a team.
Strong computer literacy skills particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel, and internet for email
correspondence and voice chat.
Ability to work to tight deadlines in meeting project and donor targets, and willingness for regular
field travel.
Fluent Myanmar language (spoken and written).
Minimum intermediate-level English language skills (spoken and written).
Confidence and interest in creating new systems, especially related to project workflow
Comfortable facilitating challenging g conversations with staff and partners, and managing
conflicting interests
An excellent and compassionate listener as well as oral and written communicator Demonstrated
skills in relationship building, detail-orientation, independence, motivating others, perseverance,
organizational strategy, and collaboration
Familiarity with multi-culture religious groups.
High emotional quotient, with a particularly strong ability to empathize and appreciation for humor
