RESEARCH METHOD
On this chapter, the writer would explain the methodology that is used for
the research. It includes: research design, data source, data collection technique,
and data analysis technique.
3.1 Research Design
This research used a descriptive qualitative method. According to Creswell
(2014: 96), qualitative reseach is used as a broad explanation for behavior and
attitudes. In relevant with the explanation, descriptive qualitative method is the
most suitable for this research. This reseach is considered as a descriptive reseach
due to the objective of this reseach is to deliver and describe the subtitling strategy
which are used in 21 Jump Street movie. The data sampling was obtained by
choosing 200 utterances.

internet to comprehend and match it with one of the target language. The last step
is classifying the utteranes in the source and target languages of the movie
displaying the subtitling strategies as the data of the research.
3.4 Technique of Analyzing Data
In analyzing the data, the writer classified and categorized the types of
subtitling strategies based on a framework proposed by Gottlieb (1992: 166), they
are Expansion, Paraphrase, Transfer, Imitation, Transcription, Disclocation,
Condensation, Decimation, Deletion, and Resignation.
