(Moringa oleifera, Lam.) to IL-1β Expression in Pancreatic Tissue of High-Fat
High-Fructose Fed rats (Rattus norvegicus). Mini Thesis. Medical Faculty, Sebelas

Introduction: High intake of fat and sugar has been associated with increase of
metabolism product and inflammation mediators that make damage beta cells of
pancreas. This research aimed to determine the effect of Moringa seeds extract to
IL-1β expression in pancreatic tissue of High-Fat High-Fructose Fed rats (Rattus
norvegicus).
Methods: This was laboratory experimental research using posttest only group
design used twenty-four male Wistar rats which were assigned into 4 groups. KN
(control) were fed with standard pellet, meanwhile K(-), P1, and P2 were fed with
high-fat high-fructose diet while 53 days. Then P1 were given Moringa seeds
extract dose 150mg/KgBW, and P2 were given Moringa seeds extract dose
200mg/KgBW. After 28 days, rats were terminated and make it to be pancreatic
tissue. Expression of IL-1β counted in semiquantitative by IDS, analize with One-
Way ANOVA test, and Tukey HSD as the post hoc.
Result: One-Way ANOVA test showed a significant difference of IL-1β expression
between four group (p < 0.05). Tukey HSD post hoc test showed a significant
difference between KN and K(-) (p < 0.05), K(-) among P1 and P2 showed
significant difference (p < 0.05). But there were not significant difference of IL-1β
expression KN among P1 and P2, also between P1 and P2 there were not significant
difference.
Conclusions: Moringa oleifera seeds extract at dose of 150 mg/kgBW and dose of
200 mg/kgBW significantly reduces IL-1β expression of pancreatic tissue in high-
fat high-fructose fed Wistar rats.
