CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Youth is the hope of the nation (Dr. Jose P. Rizal). Students are the future of the country. The
development of the country greatly depends upon students. Today in the time of advancement
and hi-technology it is mandatory to educate them well. So that they can aid nation with their
creative ideas. But sometimes it becomes difficult to both students and parents or teacher to
understand each other.
Behaviour comprises of the mannerisms and actions exhibited by a person. Good
manners are not just about following set rules. Relating well with people, hard work, being able
to stand up for oneself and others for the right reasons and knowing how to control emotions are
also critical. Learning to recognize the good and evil forces of life helps us to make use of the
good ones. To be human is to balance between hundreds of extremes. Sometimes we have to
avoid these extremes, but at other times it seems we should pursue them, to better understand
life.
Every school has rules and regulations. It takes gut and courage to constantly do what is
right amidst negative pressure. Behaving well attracts favour and honour from peers, parents, and
teachers, and even administration.
However, student misbehaviours such as disruptive talking, chronic avoidance of work,
clowning, interfering with teaching activities, harassing classmates, verbal insults, rudeness to
teacher, defiance, and hostility . Teachers usually reported that these disturbing behaviours in the
classroom are intolerable and stress-provoking and they had to spend a great deal of time and
energy to manage the classroom. Obviously, student misbehaviours retard the smoothness and
effectiveness of teaching and also impede the learning of the student and his/her classmates.
Every generation of adults seems to worry that the next generation of youth is in trouble.
The perception of kids today is no different, with theories abounding as to why the mental health
of the newest generation is slipping, compared with previous standards. Behavioural problems
result from the way society works these days and external parties, such as bad influences from
TV shows and social media. Nevertheless, by understanding students’ views and guiding them
patiently, students can gradually change and behave in a more appropriate manner.
The society we live in today is quite rotten. Demanding good behaviour from students is
quite tall order. Dreams for schools to have self-driven learners; all focused in their education;
active in all school activities; following all the set rules; engaging their teachers and guardians in
their learning process and communicating through the right channel.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Behaviourism, also known as behavioural psychology, is a theory of learning based on the idea
that all behaviours are acquired through conditioning. Conditioning occurs through interaction
with the environment. Behaviour can studied in a systematic and observable manner.
Behaviourist believed that any person can potentially be trained to perform any task, regardless
of traits, and internal thoughts. It only requires the right conditioning.
Attitude on the other hand means a person’s behaviour towards situations, the way they react to
situations. The reason why attitude matter is because it largely decides how happy you are. If
something goes wrong you could sulk and think about why it happened to you, or you could
accept it and understand that is could be a lot worse than that. Although sometimes it can mislead
you into inflating your ego.
That’s why we, the researchers conducted this study because on adolescents or students physical
activity levels during school break time are low and understanding correlates of physical activity
and sedentary time in this context is important. This study investigated cross-sectional and
longitudinal associations between a range of individual, behavioural, social and policy/
organizational correlates and objectively measured school break time physical activity and
sedentary time. School break times are getting shorter despites teachers recognizing them as an
important opportunity for physical exercise and socializing.
Students are easily distracted, but regular, short breaks can help them focus, increase their
productivity, and reduce their stress. Regular breaks throughout the school days- from short brain
breaks in the classroom to the longer breaks of recess- are not simply downtime for students

CHAPTER II
This chapter presents the literature and studies relevant to presentation investigation.
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
1. General behaviour problems/ Behaviour disorders- There have been numerous studies in
the last three decades regarding behaviour disorders in children’s. This selected review
focus on studies involving behavioural problems of children and adult.
Suh, M., Carison, R.(1977) studied 197 children with behaviour disorder. An attempt was
made to correlate diagnoses between children rearing methods and family socioeconomic
status (SES- the Hollings). Result indicates that SES of the family is a factor in the
expression of symptoms in behaviour disorder, rather than particular child rearing
methods.
Welding, G.,(1977) studied German preschool children and identified them by using
interviews and a checklist. According to Welding most common disturbance were
sensitiveness, aggressiveness other affective problems, social withdrawal, hyperactivity,
psychomotor disturbances and speech disorder.
Center, D. B.,(1981) tested 33 children ranging age from 5 to 12 years old. They tested
the assumption that there is a close relationship between presenting behaviour problem
and developmental deficits by running a stepwise, backward multiple-regression analysis
of scores obtained from data.
Crowther, J. H., Bond, L.A. & Rolf, J.E.(1981) studied 588 children, 320 boys and 269
girls aged 2 to 5 years. Boys were rated as having difficulty working and playing well w/
others at 4 years, larger percentage of girls were rated as speaking in soft voice compared
to other children.
Mc Gee, R., Silva, P.A., & Williams, S.(1983) investigated the characteristics of children
identified as having behaviour problem by parents and teachers. Results indicate that
differential association between those background characteristics and problems whether
the parent, the teacher or both perceived a problem.

Stein Mark, A., O’Donnel, J.P.(1985) studied 59 boys, 39 girls ranging age from 5 to 12
years with IQ greater thatn 70, 19 children with conduct disorder (CD), 23 with attention
deficit disorder (ADD) and 16 with Anxiety Disorder for contrast group – 14 children
with physical disability ad 17 normal children. As a result, data suggest ADD is part of a
broader conduct problems.
Thompson, R.J.(1985) studied behaviour problem in childhood. Findings are organized
around basic question regarding frequency of behaviour problem in the normal
population.
Wang, Y., Shen, Y., Gu, B.J. et al, (1989) studied that the frequency of behavioural
problems varied significantly with different social condition such as family structure,
parent involvement in child’s teaching and the way were brought up. There was
significantly differences between problems evaluated by parents at home and those
observed by teachers in school.

METHODOLOGY
This study was undertaken to identify the Common Misbehaviour of SHS at School
Canteen during Break time. The purpose of this study was to determine if the SHS are mature
enough in terms of buying snacks or foods at the canteen.
This research study is a type quantitative research under case study. It takes place in the
field of social care and psychology. This involves a study of a person, group and situation. It
seeks to find answers on why such behaviour occurs to the students. It can also defined as
intensive study about a person, a group of people or a unit, which is aimed to generalize over
several units.
POPULATION OF THE STUDY
The researchers observed SHS students while they are having their break. They also
interviewed two canteeners for the comparison.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE
First, the researchers asked the permission from their Research teacher to allow them to proceed
for the observation of SHS students during break time.
The researchers asked the permission from the Canteen Management to allow them observed
inside the school canteen during break time.
With the permission granted, the researchers observed without the SHS students noticing them.
The observation were conducted during the morning and afternoon break time for Three Weeks.
The researchers had a checklist as their basis.
The Researchers distributed the survey questionnaires to the random selected SHS students.
The checklist and survey questionnaire were tallied, analysed and interpreted in accordance to
the items found in instruments.
DESCRIPTIONS of the INSTRUMENTS
Checklist and survey questionnaires was used as the main instrument of the study to determine
the behaviour of SHS students at School Canteen during Break time. The checklist contains yes
or no choices. The survey questionnaires contains questions about the given service of the
canteen. The checklist focused on how to SHS students act while falling in line, to the used of
the entrance and exit.
The researchers’ checklist and survey questionnaires was prepared and showed to their subject
teacher for the comments and suggestions. After that, revision of the checklist and survey
questionnaires was done. The researchers incorporated the comments and suggestions of their
subject teacher and prepared the second draft of the checklist and survey questionnaires. The
check list has six items, while the survey questionnaire has 5 multiple choice and 2 items for the
opinions of the randomly selected students.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF THE DATA
Percentage and ranking were used by the researchers to convert the numerical data gathered from
the questionnaire. Only tallying, getting of percentage, and getting of ranking were the methods
needed to come up with a conclusion on this study. Descriptive statistics which include basic
summary of the data gathered was used to explain further the result of the study. The descriptive
statistics used frequency, percentage, and ranking. These things would be explained further in the
following.
a. Frequency - pertains to the number that have the same answer in a specific question.
b. Percentage - used to determine the ratio of respondents that have same answers with general
number of respondents.
Formula: Wherein:
𝐹 % = Percentage
% = 𝑁 × 100
F = the number of Yes’s and No’s
N = the total number of observations conducted
c. Ranking-used to determine the order of the results according to their percentage.

break time. This research was conducted during the S.Y. 2018-2019. Specifically, the study
attempted to answer the following questions:
1. Do they fall in line properly?
2. Do they take their used plates or trash into proper places or trashcans?
3. Do they pay the right price?
4. Are they noisy when eating?
5. Do they respect the canteeners?
6. Do they follow the “entrance” and “exit”?
After the data were tabulated, analyzed and interpreted the following findings emerged:
1. If they line properly. All the time SHS students doesn’t fall in properly.
2. If the SHS students took their used plates or trashes into the proper place or trash cans.
Most days SHS students doesn’t take their used plates or trash into the proper places. But,
some days SHS students doesn’t their responsibility after eating. The Canteen
Management confirms that all the time SHS students leaves their used plates and trashes
on the tables.
3. If the SHS students pay what they take. The observation and the answer of Canteener 2
matched that the SHS students pay what they take. The Canteener 1’s answers that there
are sometimes that there are SHS students buy but doesn’t pay all the items they took.
4. If the SHS students are noisy when eating inside the canteen. Most of the time the
researchers observed that SHS students are noisy when eating, but, there is a day they are
silently eating. The Canteener 1 indicates that everyday SHS students are noisy when
eating. The Canteener 2 indicates that there are days that SHS students are noisy when
eating and they eats silently.
5. If the SHS students respects the Canteeners when buying. Most of the times the
researchers hears that the SHS students’ buys politely, sometimes they buy with a rude
approach. The Canteeners indicates that there are days that the SHS students buys
politely and sometimes they are rude.
6. If the SHS students follows the “Entrance” and “Exit”. SHS students doesn’t follow the
“entrance” and “exit” even though there are signs. The Canteeners always sees that the
SHS students doesn’t follow the “entrance” and “exit” signs.
