Fair vs Unfair Discrimination Explained

Discrimination is showing favoritism or bias for or against someone based on arbitrary attributes like gender, race, or age. There are two types of discrimination: fair and unfair. Fair discrimination includes requirements of a job, legal obligations, and merit-based decisions. Unfair discrimination is prejudice or bias against protected attributes and can be direct, like unequal pay, or indirect, like neutral policies that disproportionately impact certain groups. If an employee faces unfair discrimination, they can file a grievance with their employer or CCMA to seek resolution.
