Course Title: Introduction to Information Technology
Course Code: InTc1101
Credit Hour: 3 Lecture: 2 hours Lab: 3 hours
Pre-requisite: None
Description: This knowledge area is intended to be at the introductory level in a
curriculum and to provide foundation skills for subsequent courses. It provides an
overview of the discipline of IT and introduces basic concepts of computer like:
classifications of computer, characteristics of computer, computer history and evolution;
computer systems; numbering systems, arithmetic and data representation; introductory
data communication and computer networks; describes how it relates to other computing
disciplines, and begins to instill an IT mindset. The goal is to help students understand
the diverse contexts in which IT is used and the challenges inherent in the diffusion of
innovative technology.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this course students will be able to:

Understand computer histories, concepts, advantages, limitations
Describe computer systems in terms of Hardware and Software
Have the knowledge about the structure of the CPU, Storage, Input/output devices
and its peripherals
Have the knowledge about number systems and computer operations
Gain knowledge of the concepts of data communication and networking
Manage & organize files & folders.
Use Computer Application Software’s (MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Access…)
effectively and efficiently

Continuous Assessments 50 %( which includes: tests, quizzes, class activity &
attendance, Individual & group Work Assignments and Practical Exams. )
Final Exam 50%
