Outlaw Racing L35682 Tether Pull Kill Switch Installation Instructions
For NO (Normally Open) Circuit
Normally Open (NO) switches work the opposite way of NC switches. NO switches are the open type; they
work by grounding the primary ignition lead when the tether is pulled away from the bars.
Warning: Ensure that you purchase the correct kill switch! To discover which type of switch you will require,
please consult your Service Manual, contact your dealer, use the Switch Testing Procedure below, or consult
the Model Compatibility list at bottom. Installing the incorrect switch type can lead to serious damage to the
ignition and/or electrical system making the vehicle unusable.
Warning: Always disconnect the power supply BEFORE you begin installation. Failing to do this could result in
serious damage to the electrical system or serious, even life-threatening, injury to the installer.
Switch Testing Procedure
This tether kill switch is Normally Open. If you are unsure whether this is correct for your machine you
must perform the following test.
Locate the two wires going to your kill switch
With the switch in the RUN position, test for continuity between the two wires using a voltmeter
If you DO NOT have continuity, this tether WILL work for your machine
If you DO have continuity, this tether switch WILL NOT work for your machine
Making Your Connections
*This example works for a Honda TRX400EX or a TRX450R, wiring colors may differ for various makes.
Locate the wiring harness coming off of the key switch
Isolate the ground wire (green) and the positive wire (black with white stripe)
Use a wire tap splice connector - not included (pictured right)
Splice the ground wire from the kill switch into the green ground wire
Splice the positive wire from the switch into the Black wire with a white stripe
Make sure you are making good contact by firmly squeezing the splicing connector together. If
connectors are not available, you can strip insulation back about ½ inch (WITHOUT CUTTING wire) to
splice into it. Just make sure your connections are tight and waterproof with electrical tape.
Checking Your Switch Installation
Before making final wire connections, test the tether kill switch to ensure it is working properly.
Start the machine
Pull the tether key while the bike is running
The bike should stall when the tether key is removed.
Install the tether key and start the engine again to make sure it works correctly.
Final Connections
Make sure to properly connect the wires once testing is successful. (Solder, Heat Shrink)
Make sure your wires are properly tucked into a harness, or at least zip tied out of the way.
