SPORTS
Special Program in the Arts
The Special Program for the Arts is a nationwide program for
students with potentials or talents in the Arts. The school offers a
comprehensive secondary education program centered in the Arts,
covering a range of art forms and disciplines. Arts education is an
integral component of a balanced educational program in all year
level which also provides the background for post-secondary level
work.
The curriculum is the general high school curriculum with
enhanced humanities subject offerings. The program offers six
areas:
SPECIAL PROGRAM FOR THE 1. MUSIC- Band, Rondalla & Vocal (choir)
ARTS – designed for dedicated students with interest in vocal or
instrumental music.
2. VISUAL ARTS
– helps the students discover what they can produce through their
own creativity through paintings, print making, creative crafts and
designs, computer graphics, sculpture, etc.
3. THEATER ARTS
-emphasizes on group work skills and live performance of spoken
text in a number of styles and genres; contemporary and classical
acting techniques will be introduced.
4. DIGITAL ARTS
-teaches students to use elements and tools of current and

emerging technologies to create works that express feeling and
ideas; students will be trained to analyze and create work though
photography, video , audio, computer arts, interactive media, and
film production.
5. CREATIVE WRITING/MALIKHAING PAGSUSULAT
– trains the students to explore and write their own ideas and
experiences; they will study and work on all genres like poetry,
fiction, non-fiction, etc.
6. DANCE
– develops student’s techniques, movement, vocabulary and a
deeper understanding of dance as a form of communication and
expression
Ten hours a week is allotted for applied arts, which ever area a
student chooses.
Admission
The student should pass the screening test made of two phases:
1. Written Test- IQ
2. Performance Test-Based on Specialization

Requirements and Fee
1. Duly accomplished application form
2. Two (2) latest & identical 2″ x 2″ pictures with name tag
3. Photocopy of Grade VI Report Card duly certified correct by
the Elementary Principal or bring original copy of report card
together with a photocopy to be certified by the BCNHS
Guidance Counselor.
4. Examination fee for test materials, honorarium, and other
incidental expenses.
Grade Requirement as of Third Grading Period:
A general average of 83% or higher and no grade lower than 80%
in any subject.

SPA is a nationwide program for secondary students with potentials and
talents in the arts namely; Music Visual Arts, Theater Arts, Media Arts,
Programs DepED Issuances
Creative Writing and Dance; Piloted in 17 schools and later adopted by
51 secondary schools.
SPS is a program aimed to address the needs of secondary students with
potentials/talents in sports namely: Archery, Arnis, Badminton, Chess,
Gymnastics, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Dancesport Under the
program, the students undergo an 4-15 hours per week training under
trained coaches. specializing in sports where they excel in. Initially
implemented in 15 HSs & later mainstreamed in 300 HSs.
Program Coverage: Same schools get the fund support for two (2)
consecutive years as developmental fund. Currently covers:
Component/Allocation: Subsidy to Schools @ P500,000 per school
Eligible Activities/Expenses:
Student development activities such as training, workshop,
participation in DepEd-approved festivals, competitions;
Procurement of art/music/sports supplies, costumes/uniform and
instructional materials in the different art/sports areas;
Training of teachers and administrators on arts/sports; and
Participation of teachers in DepEd-sponsored scholarship
programs, professional upgrading of teachers including
enrolment in a master’s degree program in arts/sports.
Sports: 1:45 per class at 2 classes per year level with different no.
of students per specialization;
Arts: 1:50 per class per class with 7 students minimum per
specialization;
Requirements:
Recipient schools shall conduct a yearly monitoring training
program to schools within the division/region which intend to
implement the same program as well as giving access to other
schools on the equipment & facilities;
Participants on the program must continue to participate in the
national/international events/competition;
Student-beneficiaries must have achieved the mean percentage
score (MPS) above the national average in the National
Achievement Test (NAT)
Special Program in Arts (SPA)
SPA (Special Program in the Arts) is a program made by the Department
of Education in the Philippines to give talented students a chance to
enhance their talents in different fields. There are five fields in the SPA:
Creative Writing (English and Filipino), Visual Arts, Theater Arts, Vocal
Music, Instrumental Music, Dance and Media Arts.

The Special Program for the Arts is a nationwide program for students
with potentials or talents in the Arts. One pilot school in every region was
selected to pilot and implement this program and is now on its tenth year
of implementation.
The selected school offers a comprehensive secondary education program
centered in the Arts, covering a range of art forms and disciplines. Arts
education is an integral component of a balanced educational program in
all year levels which also provides the background for post-secondary/
tertiary level work.

Journalism both in English and Filipino.

Music which includes theory, Composition, Solo instrument, Ensemble,
Chorus, and Solo voices both Instrumental and Vocal.
Theater Arts, Acting, Stage Management, Technical Theater, Theory
and History of Theater, Dance Theater and Directing.
Visual Arts which includes Visual Perception, Sculpture, Painting,
Drawing and Sketching.
Media Arts which includes Photography, Photo Editing through
computer, Music Remixing, Movie Making & Editing, Materials &
Techniques and Computer Art.
