Enhancing Teaching with Multiple Intelligences

This research article summarizes a study that examined how teaching methods aligned with students' intelligence strengths. 160 community college students completed an online multiple intelligences assessment to identify their top three learning strengths. Results showed that students' strengths were not being met by the current teaching style, which primarily uses linguistic/verbal intelligence. The top three student strengths were interpersonal, intrapersonal, and bodily/kinesthetic. The study suggests teachers should gain insight into students' strengths and adapt lessons accordingly.

Implications for change project
Results of this study reflect the importance of being mindful of the multiple intelligences when preparing lessons and
activities. While students gained insight on their educational processes, instructors gained insight on the strengths of
their students. The data reflected in this study should encourage teachers to change how they teach to ensure they are
meeting the needs of their students. This study is encouraging and supportive of my choice to use a program that
involves the use of multiple intelligences and understanding students’ strengths as my implementation plan.
Understanding the strengths and challenges of students, allows us to create opportunities for success as well as plan
lessons and activities that both support and challenge our students. In addition, having students develop an
understanding of their strengths will help them have insight on ways that they can be successful.
