I. INTRODUCTION
As the line on a song said “I believe the children is our future”, we also advocate the
same belief as we seek and find an organization that benefits the lives of our children. Helping
Hands is the top on our list. This organization advocates about financing poor children who
cannot afford their medical needs. They also empower social needs and nourish spiritual welfare
of children who are malnourished, abandoned, fighting with cancer, post-surgical kids, and sick
beings that really need help. Knowing this altruistic act of this organization, it motivates us to stir
up the helping spirit within us to help who are in need without expecting any return out of pure
motives and responsibility.
II. HISTORY
The Children’s Recovery Unit or CRU in Olongapo. It began in 2004 and has housed
hundreds of children over the years. CRU is 24 hour, temporary care facility for sick and dying
children. A place to recover! It currently houses around 15 children. They try to keep the
numbers at a manageable rate so that the children we have can have the full attention and
devotion of the team. They have doubled our numbers in emergency situations but generally we
keep them to 15-20 children at a time.
Most of our children are referred from James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital in Olongapo
City. Some kids are referred from DSWD, CSWD and other government agencies. Many more
come from local individuals or parents who are desperate to find someone to help their
child. Geographically, most of the kids come from Olongapo, Zambales and the surrounding
areas. Some travel for up to 4 hours just to get to Olongapo to look for help. They make sure that
when families arrive we are able to accommodate them as best we can. And help them with all
that we can.
They house many types of children here ranging from preemies, newborns to older teens!
They have malnourished children, children with cancer, post-surgical kids, children who have
been abandoned to the social services or local hospital but are sick. They will consider any child
who needs our help as long as they are poor, sick and in need of the help we can offer. It’s a
demanding mission for the staff because many of the children we invest our lives into, stay for
long periods of time. It’s always “mixed emotions” when they leave. On one hand, it’s always
difficult to say goodbye and yet we are so thrilled for them that they are finally well enough to
go home to their families and get back to “normal” life. We do a little “graduation” ceremony for
them before they leave and let them feel assured of our love and prayers before they are
discharged back to their families to another long term Child Caring Agency. As we also offer
palliative care, we have had to learn to cope with a lot of deaths. Our hearts often break but we
remind ourselves that they are no longer suffering and are safe in the arms of Jesus. We then
focus on being a comfort and support to the families left behind. This particular part of the
ministry has been such a blessing to families, as we have been able to minister to them all as they
stay and work through the process of illness, death and loss. As the Bible instructs, we mourn
with those who mourn.
The daily routine at CRU include child care, household chores and activities for children.
Almost every day there are children who have to go for check up’s and often times even have to
travel as far as Manila just to see the doctors who know how to handle their cases. We also work
alongside a fabulous burns Nurse in Zambales, again, it takes time to travel to her clinic, but it’s
always worth the trip! As we now also have some school age children who are able to still
continue their studies while having treatment, we have been able to network with a wonderful
local school who is helping with their education. There’s never a dull moment with so many
children around and that’s why it takes a team of at least 15 staff to run the CRU as well as extra
hands in the form of our foreign volunteers.

The population of Helping Hands Healing Hearts is 40% female, 47% male and 15%
volunteers which is 100% and the total number of the person is 61. The Children’s Home is
currently a safe refuge for 46 childrens aged 4-17 years old, who were rescued from crisis
situations. Their children were either abused, abandoned, surrendered (given up) or neglected
and in need of long term residential care. Helping Hands Children’s Home has a strong Christian
family feel. The kids are raised to know that there is a God who loves them and knows their
name. They have room for expansion but they need to hire more staff to take care of the growing
numbers of children. They are also praying for their own building, as renting is so temporary and
a huge monthly burden. These children desperately need permanence in their lives.
They believe that every child should have a family. They work alongside DSWD (Social
Services) and ICAB (Inter Country Adoption Board) to find children, either local or foreign
families, who will be their “forever family”. Sadly, not every child is “adoptable” and so for
many, they become their family. They have children who have been placed with families all over
the world including USA, UK, Canada, Italy, Austria and Spain. Adoption is a beautiful thing. It
is God’s way. Aside from daily home life activities, They make sure that all the children receive
a good education at a local Christian school. Theye also have a daycare onsite for their smaller
children and for those from CRU who are not ready to go back to mainstream schooling yet.
Education is their way out of poverty. God is at the center of all they do in The Home. All the
people who are inside the Helping Hand Healing Hearts is a Catholic Religion. They believe that
God is a healer and God is always guiding them for all they do.
Volunteers, Staff and their Nationality
They have multidisciplinary teams of staff and volunteers who care for the children, work
in the community projects and manage the administration. All in all they have around 50 local
paid mission staff and lots of foreign volunteers from Northern Ireland, Germany, USA and other
places. In olongapo city they only have 15 volunteers mixed Filipino and American. Their
volunteers are all self supporting. They often accept teams to come and help alongside them.
They are a Non Government Organization, licensed and accredited by the Department of Social
Welfare and Development (DSWD) and The Securities Exchange Commission (SEC).
They have won many awards for their service to Filipino children and strive for excellence in all
they do. They hold theirrselves accountable to theirr Board of Trustees and Advisors in the UK
and in The Philippines. God is at the center of all they do.
Source of Income
Their financial support comes from the generous donations of individuals and churches
who have a heart to help too. It is only with the help, prayers and giving they are able to do what
they do. Every donation makes a difference and helps change the course of a child’s life

IV. PROPOSED PROJECTS
1. Project Title: Children's Day; A love to share
Project Description: This project envisions to help less fortunate child, malnourished and those
who undergo surgery including infants, middle ages and even teens to enjoy a one lifetime
experience. It encompasses the essence of being humanitarian, sense of empathy and the passion
to help with willingness. It will benefit the benefactors in a way that they can enjoy this event
through various activities, games, doing artwork and there's even a food time for them. By doing
this, they can develop a what we called camaraderie and this can also ease the pain they are
experiencing by diverting their attention in a joyful way.
Project Objectives and Goals:
*The goal of this project is to create a CSR ( Corporate Social Responsibility ) and enhance the
skills of the members who manages the event.
*To be able to lend a helping hand to those who really in need and provide a basic help for them
to alleviate some of their basic needs.
*To provide a project where each participants will enjoy and will have an experience they never
had before.
*To provide knowledge to each member of this CSR on how a it should be operated and handle.

2. Project Title: One book you share, One future you saved
Project Description: In regards of Growing rate on Philippines illiteracy rate, this project
focuses on providing reading awareness to every children. Every book a person share can help a
child to nurture their reading comprehension. By accumulating books upon donation, we can
provide them a mini library where they can enjoy different genre of stories.
Project objectives and goals:
*To provide knowledge to each member of this CSR on how a it should be operated and handle.
*The goal of this project is to create a CSR ( Corporate Social Responsibility ) and enhance the
skills of the members who manages the event.
*To give an avenue of learning to the children of the foundation because we all know that
education is the foundation of someone's future. So every book you share , you can save
someone's future by providing some learning aids.
*To gather books as much as the foundation needed.
*To promote national reading awareness.

Project Description: This summer camp project proposal intends to create an event that caters
the children of helping hearts a day to feel like what they want to be in the future. In short, they
can be a doctor, teacher or anything they want! It's like a career day for them. Giving them a
summer camp like this will give them the experience of what a future version of them will look
like. In this way, we can motivate each children that they can achieve every dream they want if
they don't give up on it. Experiencing it beforehand will give them the mindset of striving harder
will result on the career they picked.

*The goal of this project is to create a CSR ( Corporate Social Responsibility ) and enhance the
skills of the members who manages the event.
*To promote that in every career they picked there lies a future beyond it.
*For them to experience what it is like to be a professional, for them to experience what a doctor,
teacher, chef, lawyer really doing in real life. In such way if they get more interested on it, they
will really push and strive harder to achieve that goal.
