Weekly Journal: FMP Planning Insights

This weekly journal entry from a student discusses their progress in planning for their film production project over the past week. They learned about scriptwriting and storyboarding, and encountered issues developing natural dialogue and planning scenes that needed to be revised. The student checked their work with teachers to ensure their script and storyboards met standards and organized their cast and crew, though they fell slightly behind on the script and need to complete it outside of lessons.

WEEKLY JOURNALS

This is where you think about your FMP learning journey and development.
Don’t simply describe what you did - consider what you have learnt and how this has benefitted
your project. What do you need to improve?

THIS IS JUST GUIDANCE THAT YOU NEED TO ADAPT TO YOUR OWN PROJECT. YOU HAVE CREATED YOUR
OWN PRODUCTION SCHEDULES AND YOUR WEEKLY BLOGS SHOULD REFELCT THAT.

Week Four - Planning

PLANNING

What did you learn from your planning This week I learned from my script what would work and what
this week? wouldn’t for my production. Through brainstorming and
developing my script I have learned about how I am going to
make my production. In my script I had to make sure that the
lines not only suited the actors saying them but also suited the
looks of the character as people expect a character to say
something relevant to what the character looks like in the
production. My storyboarding has also taught me what
camera angles will work and what will not as I considered the
locations, I will be filming in I needed to make sure that the
camera angles will work with what I am doing and if I need to
make any changes.

What issues did you encounter and Some issues that I encountered this week were that when I was
how did you overcome them? writing my script, I have quite a lot of scenes where there is just
open conversation and the actors are just talking together. I
found it extremely difficult to script a conversation as I didn’t
want it to look fake and for there to be like big gap in between
when people are speaking, I want it to be a nice and flowy
conversation. I ended up just writing in the script a mock
conversation and then in my production I will just say to them
that they can loosely follow what I have written down for them

How did you ensure that your Before making my storyboards, I made checked with my
storyboards were completed to a high teacher to make sure that I was putting the correct information
standard? on the correct sections of the storyboard, although a basic
step, it made sure that I was making storyboards properly. I
then ensured that my story boards where completed to a high
standard by taking my time to draw, so they didn’t look rushed.
Another thing that I did was I looked at some professional story
boards to see what they would look like in the real industry.

How has your planning When planning I have been thinking about where they are
developed/changed during the going to be in each scene so they need to be a suitable space
planning stage? and also in a relevant space. Another thing I wanted to do,
was I wanted to a scene where they boys are drinking alcohol
and also smoking weed, this would show that they are reckless
kids who don’t care about themselves and think it’s cool to
drink and smoke. But when I was tell Sarah and Adam about
that part in my production, they said that I wasn’t allowed to
show any use of drugs so I decided to scrap that idea.

How have you ensured your script is of Before making my Script, I made checked with my teacher to
a high detailed standard? make sure that I was using the correct font and that I had put it
in the correct lay out also that the dialogue is relevant to the
characters and the scene in which they are in. I also made sure
that the stage directions were clear enough to be understood
by other people than myself by checking it with peers to get
their opinion. I also did make sure that I got my teachers to go
over it and make sure that again it was done correctly and to
see if what I had written needed to be changed and if
anything could be added to make it better

How well have you managed and I have managed to organise my cast and crew very well. The
organised your cast and crew to be in way I did this is I asked them when and what says they were
available when you need them? free and then once they had told me, I booked the days that
they were free and I told them what days I wanted them and
where they should be. I am doing a lot of scenes separate as
some of my cast aren’t free so ill have to do lots of different
days shooting.

Are you on track for the week? If not, I am not track for this week as I am still finishing off my script
how far behind are you?

What work do you need to complete As I only need to finish off my script, I will do it at home
outside of lessons to stay on track?
