Solar Power Inverter Project Overview

This document describes a solar power inverter project that converts DC power from a solar panel into AC power. The key components are a solar panel, transistors, a transformer, a 555 timer chip, batteries, and other basic electronic components. The circuit uses pulse width modulation from the 555 timer to switch the transistors on and off, sending pulses through the transformer to generate AC power. While this simple circuit can power lights, it has limitations like non-sinusoidal output and inability to power heavy loads. Upgrades proposed include replacing components like the 555 timer with more advanced chips and designing a printed circuit board.

THEORY

A Solar Power Inverter, is an electronic device or circuitry that changes Direct Current
(DC) to Alternating Current (AC) (pure sine wave) with the help of PWM (Pulse Width
Modulation) while using a solar plate to charge the voltage source.

Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), or Pulse Duration Modulation (PDM), is a modulation

technique used to encode a message into a pulsing signal. Although this modulation
technique can be used to encode information for transmission, its main use is to allow the
control of the power supplied to electrical devices, especially to inertial loads such as motors.
By this technique we can control speed of electrical devices such as motors, and can control
switching of electrical devices. In our circuit, we have achieved PDM by using a 555 Timer.

The circuit that we have made is one the cheap circuits and although it can’t bear the large
loads, it is good enough to light up light bulbs or lamp lights ranging from 10 watt to 60
watt, whenever there is an electric breakdown or power-cut.
WORKING

We have a switching pair of transistors circuit which draws a impulse current through
primary windings of transform which in return produces dc to ac.

Description of circuit:

 3mA current flows through the primary windings of a transform.(depends upon

supply)

 We are using 2N2222 transistor which have a source and sink current range of
800mA.

 The output that we are obtaining at no load condition is 164 rms value that is equal to
230V ac supply.

 The transform that we are using is 12-0-12 center tap transform having current rating
of 500Ma

 HEAVY LOAD CAN’T BE OPERATED

 When we observe the output voltage on simulation software with the help of digital
scope oscillator we didn’t observe pure sinusoidal wave form we observe spike in our
waveform which can harm the sensitive devices if we want to operate them from our
230v ac supply that is generated from inverter.

 We can’t operate a load which operates on more than 3 A of current because rating of
our transform is equal to 3 A of current as it will burn out our transform in the circuit.
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM

We observe peak at output when we observed wave in our software which is harmful
for sensitive devices.
OVERCOME OF LIMITATION:

LOW PASS FILTER CIRCUIT

Sinusoidal wave is obtain at output. But output voltage is quite low (16.5)v.
