Transcripts Essay

I am convinced that a solid education is essential to achieve the American dream. When I

migrated from Mexico to the USA at 13, I knew I had to overcome my language barrier and

adapt to a new culture and a new educational environment. It was very challenging to learn

English and to adapt to my new country. I realized that the first step to achieve success was to

get out of the ELD program and take advantage of the myriad of educational opportunities that

English speakers have. My transcripts are proved of all the hard work I had to faced in order to

be the student that I am today. They show that I got out of ELD after my freshman year, and I

remained focused and determined, working hard on my regular courses.

An important thing that my transcripts show is the opportunity that I had to challenge myself and

to enroll in AP Classes. By my junior year I have taken five AP classes. All these classes were

very challenging, but AP US history was by far the most difficult class I have ever taken. This

class was about reading and analyzing complex history papers. To be successful, I sought out

tutoring from qualified tutors available in the library after school hours and stayed about ten

hours per week for ten weeks. It was worthwhile, just imagine: two years before I sat in the

library learning the colors in English and by my junior year, I was in the same library but now

writing essays and analyzing historical papers for my APUSH Class. I ended up having straight

A’s in all my AP Classes: AP Calculus AB, AP physics, AP Chemistry, and specially the AP US

History. Same for Senior year to which I earned all A’s in my AP Literature, AP Computer

Science, AP Statistics, AP Biology, and AP Economic Honors as well as AP Government class.

Since I moved to the USA, I have been working hard to overcome the initial educational barrier

of lack of English proficiency and cultural clash. My transcripts reflect that I took advantage of
the opportunities that the American educational system has to offer. I feel that they also

represent all the effort that I put in school. I am proud of my progress, from not knowing any

English three and a half years ago to become one of the top students of my graduating class. I

am sure that my dad is also very proud of me.
