Roles of Administrators in Education

Administrators play a key role in educational planning by preparing work plans, analyzing feasibility, and reporting findings. An administrator's responsibilities include planning, organizing, directing, and controlling resources to achieve goals. Their functions support the overall development process which is based on planning. For example, administrators must prepare a work plan laying out what needs to be done, how, and by whom. They also critically analyze initiatives and factors to report their findings so educational planners can make informed decisions. Key administrator roles mentioned include headmasters, education officers at different regional levels, and directors of education who oversee divisions.

It is very essential to understand “Administration & Administrator”

before knowing roles of an administrator. A common definition for
administration is given below:

“Administration involves planning, organizing, directing &

controlling human & material resources.”

Sometimes, administration & management are used for same

meaning, & commonly both are interrelated, so there is no much difference
between both. Let’s look at the management as well:

“POSD-CORB” is a term used to define management & full form of this

term is as under:

P = Planning

O = Organizing

S = Secrecy

D = Direction

Co = Coordination

R = Reporting

B = Budgetary

Now, we have a little bit know how about administration, so let’s

move towards administrators.

“Administrators are persons involved in planning, organizing,
directing & controlling human & material resources to accomplish
predetermined objective.”

Administrators in Education Sector:

Head Master(HM)/Principal: monitors a school/college and particular area.

Taluka Education Officer(TEO): monitors a particular taluka (region).

Director of Education: monitors & supervises a particular division.

Role of administrators in Educational Planning

Administrator is supposed to perform the expected functions &

behaviors to achieve an objective.

Each & every function, behavior & reaction of administrator is involved in

educational planning, because whole development phase is based on
planning and planning won’t take place without participation of
administrator.

Although, administrators’ role is to monitor basically, but there might

be many other roles of an administrator and only two are given bellow:

PC-1: Work Plan- Administrator must prepare a plan (pattern) for

work that what to do? How to do? Who to do? & so on.

PC-2: Feasibility- Administrator must have a critic eye and he should

initially, analyze causes for any activity and then report for it.

2
Then the planners will analyze his (administrator’s) report, find the
facts and finally the planning will take place.
