Affordable Inverter Design in Rwanda

This document discusses energy sources and electrification rates in Rwanda in 2018, as shown in three tables presenting the percentage of energy from different sources, percentages of urban and rural populations connected, and prices of inverters on the Rwandan market. It then states that internationally-owned companies provide off-grid solar power through photovoltaic systems and batteries, but the power is DC and expensive, so the document aims to design a less costly locally-developed single-phase inverter to increase energy access.

These companies provide off-grid solar electricity using Photo-voltaic systems and provide
power which is stored in a battery but give DC power. It is usually provided by
Internationally owned companies electricity for only a few domestic appliances and is sold
expensively by which is why we decided to look alternative locally developed solution.
