Chapter 3
Methods and Procedures
This chapter presents the research method, sources of data, data gathering instrument that
used in the investigation.
We researchers used quantitative research methodologies to survey the status of the tricycle
Operations in Tuguegarao City. In particular, it employed an exploratory research outline in
Which respondents were tricycle drivers of Tuguegarao City who are asks using an interview.
The information is analyzed through multiple data analysis. A questionnaire is prepared to gather
the data needed for this research.
Research Design
This study employs both quantitative and qualitative types of [Link] researchers used
a structured questionnaire to gather the profile of the respondents. Also, it involves a structured
interview to the tricycle drivers in Tuguegarao City to identify their socio-economic status. More
importantly, ethical consideration is also practiced by the researchers such as keeping the
confidentiality of the respondents.
Locale of the Study
This study was conducted in Tuguegarao City.
Respondents of the Study
The Respondents of this study are random tricycle drivers that were chosen through
purposive study. According to Tan (2006) Simple random sampling is the selection on random
basis of elements from sampling frame, wherein each element has an equal chance or probability
of being chose as subject of the study.
Research instrument
This study utilize a questionnaire with three parts which is patterned from the study of
Malzarte (1999). However, modifications were done by the researchers to suit to the current status
of the respondents.
The first part was the demographic profile of the respondents. It contains the following
variable: age, sex, civil status, place of origin, educational attainment, number of dependents and
number in the family earning for a living.
The second part of the questionnaire includes the business profile of the tricycles drivers
in the vicinity of Tuguegarao City such as the number of years in tricycle operation, income and
other sources of income, number of operating hours, expenditures and the amount of capital used
in tricycle driving.
The third part of the questionnaire includes the capital outlays of the financial payments of
a tricycles driver.
The Fourth part includes the problems encountered by the respondents. However, in terms
of the problems encountered in the operation, both tricycle operator and driver will be requested
to provide the answers.
The Last part includes the reasons for choosing tricycle operation as the respondent’s
means of live hood.
Data Gathering Procedures
The researchers prepared the instruments used through readings of the questionnaire-
checklist of other studies just to obtain some ideas. Finally if the researchers able to do it and was
presented to their professors, after the adviser had corrected and approved the questionnaire the
researchers will photocopy into 200 copies.
The materials instrument to be used for gathering data are the questionnaire-checklist, the
Interview, and the documentary analysis techniques.
Questionnaire-Checklist. The Questionnaire-Checklist is the main instruments used in the
gathering data. It was employed primarily to come up with the perception of respondents
concerning the subject matter Good (2009), a questionnaire is a list of planned, written questions
related to a particular topic, with space provided for indicating the response to each questions,
Intended for submission to a number of persons for reply; commonly used in normative survey
studied and in the measurement of attitudes and opinions.
Interview. The interview technique will also be used to complement the gathering of data
For the study. Interview provide information which may be confidential that may not ordinary be
given in writing. The Interview according to Vockell (2000) is a technique in which the researcher
stimulates the respondents to give the needed information for the study.
