Mourinho’s way
In this decade, football is still the best sports many people enjoy. The game played between
two of eleven players in the field can amaze spectators in the stadium or at home. Football
viewers is growing every year, with spectator from different social background, age and
gender. Football players and managers become famous for their action on the field which
fascinates football fans attention from all over the world despite their nationality, especially
the big league, such as Premiere League (England), La Liga (Spain), Serie A (Italy), Ligue 1
(French) and Bundesliga (Germany). The discussions about football is always related with the
success of football club and it is mandatory for big and rich clubs to winning domestics league,
UEFA cup or Champions league trophy. Of course, one of the key success of a football team
is their Manager. And if, we are talking about best manager in football, Mourinho is one of the
best manager nowadays. Mourinho is one of the greatest and regarded manager in football, he
has led many top European clubs to success in domestic league and European honours.
Mourinho who was born in Setubal on the January 26, 1963, starts his career as a football
player. He was playing professional football for years following his father steps as football
player. And then, he studied at the Technical University of Lisbon majoring Sports Science for
five years which enrich his knowledge on football. Finished his studied, Mourinho working as
an assistant manager and a youth team coach. His coaching career starts when he got the
opportunity to work as an interpreter for Sir Bobby Robson at Sporting Club Portugal, FC Porto
and FC Barcelona. Later on, he was working under Louis Van Gaal for another two years and
gaining success with the trophies. And then trusted to managing Barcelona B team. “I was
more influenced by Barca’s philosophy than by any other coach. They were four years of my
life absolutely fundamental” said Mourinho. After Barcelona success, he moved back to
Portugal to coach Benfica and Uniao de Leira and then he got offered as head coach in FC
Porto. His journey in FC Porto elevated high, as he was able to bring two league titles, cup title
and UEFA Champions league after beating Manchester United. “I understand why he (Alex
Ferguson) is a bit emotional. He has some top players in the world and they should be doing a
lot better than that...You would be sad if your team gets as clearly dominated by opponents
who have been built on 10% of the budget” claimed Mourinho, after beating Manchester United
in the UEFA Champions League 2003-2004. That time, all attention was on Mourinho side
after winning the trophy from unpredictable team and unseeded league side.
The success story in FC Porto was a big jump for Mourinho’s career to become the greatest
manager. The next year, He was contracted by Chelsea FC, after being bought by Russian
billionaire Roman Abramovich. Roman’s mission was to bring Chelsea in a title race for
championship in England and European. Instant result shown by Mourinho after taking in
charge and Chelsea won the EPL after 50 years waiting and they were able to present the FA
Cup and League Cup. Mourinho next journey was in Italy, when he decided to move from
Chelsea to Inter Milan after little dispute with Roman Abramovich. He was able to bring
spectacular achievement to I Nerazzuri. In Mourinho hand’s, Inter Milan won Treble for
League Cup, Coppa Italia and Champions League season 2009 – 2010, which made Inter Milan
as the only Italian club won Treble in one season. The strong achievement in Chelsea and Inter
soon noticed by big clubs in Spain. Real Madrid was interested in signing Mourinho to compete
with their rivals Barcelona FC. Then, Real Madrid signed Mourinho in 2010 to took over from
Manuel Pellergrini manager at that time. The big expetation in Real madrid did not went well
for the club and fans. He had barely won one La Liga title, Copa del rey and Supercopa de
espana in three years was far from success looked by Real madrid management. The under-
achievement for years from Mourinho had concerned the management and finially had to let
Mourinho out to another club. On June 3, 2013 Chelsea signed Mourinho as their manager for
second time. “ In my career I’ve had two great passions – Inter and Chelsea- and Chelsea is
more than important for me.” told Mourinho. Winning the title in 2014 – 2015 Mourinho
crowned as Premiere League Manager of the Season. The next season was a disaster for
Mourinho and Chelsea, they were hammered with 9 lost in 16 games and finished Mourinho’s
job at Chelsea for the second time and later replaced by Antonio Conte. The up and down career
of Mourinho in few years of his career at Inter Milan, Madrid and Chelsea doesn’t stop
Mourinho’s charm as a great manager. His charismatic leadership was still wanted by many
European big clubs.
Next on, Manchester United enter the proposal to sign Jose Mourinho as their manager to
replace Louis van gaal. As Manchester United were down and unable to regain trophies after
losing Sir Alex Ferguson when he retired in 2013. Manchester United was eager to find the
perfect replacement to lead the team back in their glory days. First season, he presented
Manchester United with three titles, Charity Shield, EFL cup and Europa League.
