1. The online course I’m teaching in for this activity is synchronous.

2. In this online activity, my online students will use a simulation on reading and writing
to have an individual experience based upon their unique choices. Each child’s end result
will be different, and I will grade them online by their supporting details of why or why
not they liked the book they read.

Online Activity This is a synchronous course and all the materials needed will be
provided ahead of time as each student will be given two books
to read based off their reading level. The teacher will record a
short video about forming an opinion and giving supporting
details. She will also remind the students to write proper
sentences with correct capital letters and punctuation. The
students will then be asked to type a letter to me, the teacher,
using Type a Friendly Letter.

Students will use the site [Link] where they can participate
in the activity with or without an account. Students will be
advised that in order to go back and edit their work, they will
need to create an account with a parents help. Once the letter is
completed, they are able to download it to their computer in
which they will be able to submit it to the teacher.

Students should complete the readings before starting the letter


in order to give full and accurate opinions and details. Once they

begin typing their letter they should follow the step by step
instructions provided. They will type the date, a make-believe
address, person to whom they are writing, body of their
paragraph, closing, and their typed signature. In doing so, the
students will be learning how to write a proper letter, an
opinion based paragraph, and the importance of supporting
detail. After typing their two opinions on the books read, they
will be asked to compare the books and which one they liked
better along with supporting details. There will be a total of
three paragraphs, each containing four to five sentences.

Once completed, they will be advised to read over and review


their work before saving. Once saved to their computer, they
will submit their letter to the teacher in which they will be
graded on the three individual paragraphs, capital letter and
punctuation usage. The first two paragraphs should contain
their opinion on the book read, at least two supporting details,
and a closing sentence. The last paragraph should be comparing
the two books, which one they liked better, at least two
supporting sentences, and a closing sentence.
