Water Flow Rate Calculation Guide

This document provides inputs and outputs for calculating water flow rates and pressure losses. It includes the total dynamic head, flow rate, specific gravity, pipe diameter, number of storage buildings, heights of various elements, friction loss, actual pump power and efficiency, and calculates the flow rate in gallons per minute and cubic meters per second. It also provides values for calculating flow rates through pipes of different diameters and materials using equations for flow rate as a function of pipe characteristics and head. Finally, it shows values input to the Hazen-Williams formula to calculate pressure losses in various units over a pipe length of 100 meters.

Insert values for flow rate, pipe bore and length as required (assumed, known or measured values) in order to calcul
the pressure loss due to friction for polyethylene pipes. Only insert values in the white cells with the blue border.
Pressure loss is shown in psi, bar, metres (head) and feet (head). Pressure loss is shown in the yellow cells with the
red border. Flow rate is the flow rate at the pipe end. Pipe bore or nominal bore is the internal diameter. Pressure los
from jets in ballcocks is not calculated. Pressure loss from bends and fittings is not taken into account; you could a
10% to the pipe length to estimate. Pipe lengths for different pipe sizes in the same run should be calculated
separately.
