What is a speech?

1. Speeches are talks delivered in public on formal and informal occasions.


2. There are many types of speeches such as 'welcome speech', 'thank you speech' and 'farewell
speech'. Besides, there are also speeches on topics of interest and social issues.
3. The PRESENT TENSE IS USUALLY USED when you write out a speech.

INTRODUCTION - SALUTATION/GREETING

1) Greet the audience.


e.g: Good morning / afternoon / evening to

SAMPLE ANSWER:

Good morning to the principal, teachers and my fellow students. I am the president of the Intro-
Junior Environment Club of our school and I have been invited to give a speech on how to keep our duction
school clean.

First and foremost, we should keep our classrooms clean. We must sweep our classrooms P1
every day and always keep our waste paper baskets empty. We must also remember to wipe the
windows daily. We should not litter everywhere in our classrooms. Rubbish must be thrown into P2
waste paper baskets. We should not let rubbish overflow the waste paper baskets as it will be
