CHAPTER III
RESEARCH METHOD AND PROCEDURE
This chapter presents the research environment, research design/methods,
sources of information, data gathering procedures that will be used to attain the objective
of the project study.
Research Environment
Batangas State University Gov. Pablo Borbon Campus II, located at Golden
Country Subdivision, Alangilan, Batangas City started in 1984. This college acquired a
three-hectare site in Alangilan, through the efforts of the second college president, Mr.
Isabelo Evangelio. In 1995, The College of Engineering was transferred to Alangilan
Campus. New Engineering courses were offered, and as time passes by, more
engineering courses were added.
At present, it has different buildings: College of Engineering Architecture and Fine
Arts (CEAFA) building, College of Informatics and Computing Sciences (CICS) building,
College of Industrial Technology (CIT) building, Food and Chemical Engineering building,
Gymnasium, ROTC headquarters, Sen. Ralph Recto Type building (civil engineering
building) and the administration building.
Based on the research conducted by the researchers, they found out that the
CEAFA building is one of the first buildings established in Alangilan Campus Gov. Pablo
Borbon, Batangas State University. The existing plan in the CEAFA building is the
illumination plan and the special equipment. Figure 3.1 shows the CEAFA building.

Research Design/Methods
This study will use the project feasibility and engineering planning and designing
types of research.
The researchers performed a preliminary energy use evaluation by examining
utility data, building or system diagrams, equipment lists, and other facility information.
The researchers also reviewed the energy utility of the establishment to observe the trend
in energy demand.
On sight visit to the building will be conducted to view, investigate or examine the
location and site for the grid tie solar power system.
Documentary analysis will be provided by Project Management Office (PMO),
National Electrification Administration (NEA), Metro Manila Electric Company

(MERALCO), and Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines (IIEE), the
Department of Energy (DOE) and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
Literary research was conducted to obtain findings of past studies on solar energy
conducted by engineering students of the College of Engineering, Architecture and Fine
Arts (CEAFA).
Research/study on the provisions on general design considerations from National
Electrification Administration (NEA) and on conductors required, overcurrent protection
selection, and voltage use from Philippine Electrical Code 2009 (PEC) will be conducted.
Sources of Information
The following government and non – government organizations will provide
documents that will be reviewed and evaluated by the researchers to obtain data and
information which will provide direction in the completion of the project study.
These are the Project Management Office (PMO), National Electrification
Administration (NEA), Metro Manila Electric Company (MERALCO), and Institute of
Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines (IIEE), the Department of Energy (DOE)
and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
Data Gathering Procedures
The researchers gathered basic information on solar energy through internet,
books, past studies, theses and journals. These were used as the building block and

guide of the study. Then, the researchers will coordinate with some government agencies
and electric utilities such as DOE and MERALCO for documents related to our study.
After the collection of necessary data for the subjected building, visit and inspection
of the area under studied will be conducted to prepare the site development plan for the
proposed grid tie solar power system. Finally, the researchers will analyzed the data
gathered which were transformed to useful information, the researches came up with the
best and appropriate design.
