RATIONALE
Reading is one the problems that DepEd keeps on addressing for the past years. The skill

of reading is one of the most important we teach our children. It is a life skill that enables them to

extend their concepts, gain information as the basis for other learning and to gain access to the

world of readings. Just as children walk talk and grow at different times, so their progression

through the skills of reading will be at different rates. The key is a child to feel positive about them

as a reader right from the start. To become a fluent reader, a child needs to take on many skills

and continue to practice these through their lives. Some are specific skills which can be taught,

others relate to attitudes, and these they will gain from the adults around them.

In reading development, the skill is not just a factor. There are numerous underlying factors

that affect the development of reading. One of the factors is the environment where a child reads.

According to Academic Skills Center, Dartmouth College (2001), Ventilation, Lightning, Reading

Position and Distraction Factors should be considered. Good ventilation will keep the children

awake while they are reading. A comfortable seat and a table will always be the main

consideration.

Project Read and ExercisSe Tayo (REsT) is a covered walkway as well as park where

reading is promoted. It will be called the “Reading Park”. The park will be having benches and

tables for students to have a comfortable seat and table to read on. A clear roof will cover the

park. Also, it will be surrounded by plants that will contribute a good and fresh air. Several reading

ads will be posted on the posts. Remedial reading can also be conducted in this place. Even a

pleasure and educational reading can happen in this park.

Objectives:
The Project Read and ExerciSe Tayo (REsT) aims to:
 Develop reading interest of the students

 Enjoy reading in a conducive environment

 Promote reading as one of the life skills

 Builds friendship through reading

Participants/ Beneficiaries
The Project REsT will be participated by all students who want to read after class, who

are undergoing remedial reading. Parents and teachers are also welcome to seat and share

their expertise in reading.
