Assignment: Networking
Introduction
To understand the purpose of networking we must first know what the meaning of networking.
As per Meriam Webster a network is “an interconnected or interrelated chain, group or system.”
Networking in a business environment is no different, you build up your group of business
connections in order to have more opportunity. More open doors. The saying in business is “it’s
not what you know, it’s who you know.”
Event Information
Name: Internship Fair
Date: August 31, 2018
Location: Graham University Center, Ballrooms
Sponsoring Organization: FIU
Planning
This is my very first internship fair, but I have a simple plan that I will follow so I won’t get lost
in the sauce as they say. My plan is fairly simple, I will have a total of 7 booths that I will
definitely go up and show interest. I have a set of questions prepared as well that I want to ask
the potential recruiters such as if the internship they are offering is paid and what is the
percentage of hiring after completing the internship process. After that the plan is to just walk
around some more and see if anything catches my attention.
Execution
The plan was executed about half way, I was not able to get through all 7 targets I had in initially
planned on doing. Although I did get through about five total. Unfortunately, after much talking
though I did not walk away with an internship like I had initially hoped for.
Reflection
I found the internship a fair a bit overwhelming with such a massive amount of people trying to
speak to the same recruiters. A conversation that would last about 5 minutes turns into 30
minutes or so waiting. The amount of information you walk away with though is tremendous, so
my advice is to take a small notepad and take notes.

Name: Jobzology: Finding your Path Toward Joy, meaning and purpose Workshop for Business
Students
Date: September 7, 2018
Location: CBC- College of Business Complex, 121
Sponsoring Organization: FIU
Planning
For this event the planning was not much different from the previous two events. I plan on going
to listen, take notes and gain some value of the process. The event itself is different from the
previous two because we’re going to be taking assessments that help narrow down what you
should pursue.
Execution
I did just what I said I planned on doing. Take notes and participate in the hands-on activities.
The hands on activates required the participants to take a few assessments and then after that it
was to take notes about how to assess your strengths and applying them in the work
environment.
Reflection
Personally, this was my favorite event, I love the questionnaires that help determine what you
should pursue based on your characteristics and more. The questionnaires do not necessarily
mean that you will do that they’re more like suggestions based on your strengths. More
importantly than finding a job that can financially support a lifestyle is finding a job you love to
do. Loving and believing in what you do day in and day out is the key to being happy in the work
place.
Modification
For this last event there was not much modification to any at all. As usual I had my notepad to
take notes, but more importantly is listening taking in the information and then applying it.

Planning
For this networking event my plan is to listen more as the interaction with others will happen at
the expense of the meeting. It is an interactive workshop. I plan to take notes but more
importantly I want to leave this workshop with at least one connection. So it reiterate my plan, I
will sit and take notes and then practice what those notes preach with hands on experience.
Execution
I did just what I said I planned on doing. Take notes and participate in the hands-on activities.
The hands on activates required the participants a number of different things that would help
anyone in the field of business run a more successful operation. The hands- activates included
actives oral communication, listening and how to manage others appropriately and get the best
out of them.
Reflection
I left the event improved as a manager. I learned a lot about positive oral communication and the
importance of motivating others so that they produce their best value. As for myself,
improvement in the next event I’m looking to somehow take in more knowledge either by sitting
at the front, taking more notes and participating more in any hands on activates. For the next
event I would not change anything in my behavior other than be more energetic in order to make
the experience a more pleasant one for me and the participants around me.
Modification
The first event was the internship fair, so the planning was a little different as the event involved
more walking, talking and less sitting. Never the less I did make some modification. I went and
bought a small notepad for all my networking notes that way I have one notebook for all my
notes.
