Background of Study

Writing becomes one of the fundamental skills to be learned especially in the practice
of teaching and learning English (Rachmawati, 2013). Writing

English is a foreign language in Indonesia. People who learn English in indonesia starting
from the young age till the elder. They learn English through formal and informal education.
Learners also have different way in learning English.

Writing is a productive skill that is one of the most difficult skills should be learned.

To master writing, students need to cooperate between their understanding

In this modern era, writing become a prior skill in life (Laksnoria Karyuatry, Muhammad
Dhika Arif Rizqan, Nisrin Adelina Darayani , 2018).

Nowadays, writing has important role in real life.

.. There are several products of writing that human being as social creature needs as media
to share ideas. Writing focuses on how students elaborate and organize their ideas into
written forms that are easily understood by readers. Writing has certain parts such as
content, coherent, grammar, and others. Mastering the products of writing are needed in
order to make the writing clearer and more understandable, without creating an ambiguous
meaning and misunderstanding information.

Academic writing

Most international journals and international conferences require papers or articles to be


written in English, it is very important for students, especially in English as a foreign
language (henceforth, EFL) learning environment, to pay more attention to mastery of
English at writing. Thus, to make the writing clearer and understandable, without creating
ambiguous meanings and misunderstanding of information, writing evaluation must be
carried out before sending writing to a journal or conference.

Furthermore, many students complain that writing is too difficult to learn. With regard to
that, the development of time forced great thinkers to create various programs and
applications that were a positive impact of the presence of the internet. This program is
made with a variety of goals and functions, both as a means of transaction and operation
even as a learning tool. One of the well-known applications is Grammarly. It helps students
to correct grammar errors when they write. Grammarly also has a special function in
learning writing which provides solutions to every problem faced by students.
