Time, Speed And Distance

Learning Objectives:-
This chapter is concerned towards the basics of motion that are
speed of a body, time and distance covered by the body. This chapter will
deal with following topics to provide a better understanding of the
mentioned topics:-

Important Points:-

[Link]:- It is the rate of covering the distance and is a scalar quantity as it doesn’t need
direction to define itself. On the other hand velocity is considered to be a vector quantity
which is a major difference between speed and velocity.

2. Average Speed:- It is defined as the ratio of Total distance travelled by a body and the
Total time taken by the body to cover the distance. It is a scalar quantity.

[Link] speed:- When two bodies are moving simultaneously and the speed of one
body is observed with respect to another body then the speed taken in account is known
as relative speed.

Relation between Time, speed and distance:-


Distance is defined as the product of the speed of the body and
time period for which the body was in motion.
