INTRODUCTION
Today’s architects and builders are increasingly focused on how to create structures that have
less impact on the natural environment. This integration of nature in the architectural design is the
basis of Environmental design and planning.
It is a design process which considers a wide range of issues and concerns related with site and
microclimate and their effect on the built space and vice versa. This entails passively and actively
harnessing solar energy and using materials which, in their manufacture, application and disposal,
do the least possible damage to nature, and also less damage to resources like water, ground and
air.
The intent of this research is to understand the role of environmental planning and design in the
field of architecture and various measures that are taken in planning and design to create an
environmental friendly and energy efficient building.
AIM
The aim of this dissertation is to review Environmental planning & design Considerations for
Building construction through literature review with specific focus on strategies for site level and
building level planning.
OBJECTIVES
To study the various aspects of environmental designing and planning in the field of
architecture.
To understand the effect of these aspects in site level planning.
To understand the building level design considerations to be taken in environmental
planning.
To draw inferences of site planning and building level design strategies and their application
in the desired area of study.
SCOPE
The study focuses on the planning and design with respect to physical features on the site
and climatic considerations and their effect on building design.
A comparative study is adopted to distinguish conventional and environmental design
solutions, and the impact of each is discussed.
LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
The study is primarily to figure out the architectural design strategies for environment friendly
design and does not take into consideration the socio cultural aspects related with environmental
planning.
