3-Cylinder Petrol Engine Test Rig

This document describes a 4 stroke 3 cylinder petrol engine test rig with rope brake dynamometer. The rig includes a petrol engine developing about 8 HP at 1500 RPM with standard accessories that can be tested. A rope brake dynamometer and loading device are directly coupled to the engine on a base plate to test the engine under different loads. Additional components allow for measuring fuel consumption, air intake and exhaust gas temperature, and conducting an energy balance and heat tests on the engine. Controls and sensors are mounted on a panel board to operate and monitor the test rig.

E  Consisting of:  
N   Petrol  Engine:  A  Four  Stroke  Three  Cylinder  petrol  engine 
(Old but Overhauled Engine) developing about 8 HP at 1500 
G  RPM  variable  speed  with  standard  accessories.  Engine  is 
I  provided  with  self  starter,  Battery,  dynamo,  lubrication  oil 
filter,  fuel  pump,  ignition  coil,  exhaust  silencer,  choke 
N  control  and  throttle  control.    The  engine  is  provided  with 
E  switches for conducting Morse test.  
 
S   Loading Device: A Rope Brake Dynamometer complete with 
  8 “ Dia Pulley & 100kg Dial Balance ‐ 2 nos. The engine and 
rope brake dynamometer are directly coupled on substantial 
&   base plate. 
   
 Fuel  Measuring  Arrangement:  Consisting  of  fuel  tank,  fuel 
G 
piping  from  fuel  tank  to  engine,  measurement  of  fuel 
A  consumption  by  a  burette  and  a  three  way  cock         
S  connecting tube.  
 
    Air  Intake  and  Exhaust  Gas  Measurement:  A  S.S.  tank, 
T  mounted  on  iron  stand,  fitted  with  suitable  orifice  plate, 
manometer,  temperature  sensor  for  measuring  the  air 
U  intake temperature is provided. A temperature sensor is also 
R  provided to measure the exhaust gas temperature. 
 
B   Preparation of energy balance for above engine.  Exhaust gas calorimeter  
I  (At Extra Cost) with temperature sensors, water meter is also provided to 
plot  heat  balance  sheet.  Cooling  water  arrangement  is  also  provided  for 
N  measuring  the  heat  carried  away  by  the  cooling  water  consisting  of 
E  suitable   inlet and outlet piping with temperature sensors. 
 
   Panel  board:  All  the  temperature  sensor  measuring  device  and 
L  manometer  are  mounted  on  panel  board.  It  also  consists  of  ignition  and 
starting switch, fuse unit Pilot lamp, throttle control switch, choke control 
A  switch,  and  switch  assembly  for    cutting  off  each  cylinder  for  conducting 
B  morse test
