6th Grade 2D Shapes Lesson Plan

The lesson plan aims to teach 6th grade students how to draw 2D shapes using given dimensions and angles. The teacher will review angle types using an online presentation. Then, the teacher will demonstrate drawing triangles with specific angle measurements while students complete similar practice drawings. Next, students will draw triangles with given side lengths and an angle measurement. Finally, the lesson closes with students working in pairs to describe and draw 2D shapes from clue cards.

Lesson Schedule
Targeted teacher questions to promote HOTS
Student communication and use of math language 10:30-11:10
Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge): time:

I will start the lesson by greeting the students , then I will review the angles that we take in the last lesson
(acute , obtuse , right , reflex ) using the presentation teacher will give some angles picture with their 5 min
degree on , so the students know what are the names of the angles.

Core (introduce and practice new concepts & procedures):

Teacher will tell the students that now we are going to use the protractor to draw shapes , teacher will draw
the shape first using a big protractor in the board . then the students will have a work sheet to do the same
question and draw with different measure. The question will appear in the board teacher will do this
example “Create a triangle , one angle must be 75 ° in size “ then the students will have “Create a triangle
one angle must be 60° in size “ in the work sheet.
After they finish and know how to draw triangle with angle size , now they are going to draw triangle with 30 min
giving line size and angel size teacher will do “ Create a triangle with one side 30 cm , one side 50 cm and
an angle of 60°” then she will give the students same question with different sizes “Create a triangle with
one side 7 cm , one side 8 cm and an angle of 30° (using a protractor and a ruler) ”.
After the students finish drawing both triangle, they will have a challenge to draw hexagon teacher will give
hints and size of degree, so they can draw she will give them 5 minute to see if they can do it by their own
if not teacher will explain it in the board with a online presentation that help to understand how to draw a
hexagon. [Link]

Close (wrap up, discussion, brief review activity or assessment):

I will review 2D shapes with students , students will work in pairs , they will have cards that have a
description of 2D shapes , one of them should describe the shape by the giving hints on the cards and he
can give more explanation and the other students should know what is the shape by drawing it in a blank 5 min
paper.
