What is an active learning environment? What are its benefits? How does it link to the
inquiry cycle?
Active learning environment is providing the students in learning environment with appropriate
materials, interact with other students through different activities, and stay away from letting the
students to memorize, and try to let them analyses and think (Wilson, 1996). They are many benefits
for active learning environment as involved students in collaborated learning, share different thoughts
between them, facilitate their critical and creative thinking. Moreover, it’s improved their problem-
solving skills, encourage groups discussion, improve students’ motivation in the classroom.

Which activity engaged most students? Why do you think this happened? How could the
activity be improved to further increase student engagement?
I think using video to engage students with variety of essential and guiding questions is the best
activity which give students chances to share their thoughts about the topic and be familiar with it
by answering the teacher’s questions. This happened because video attract the students and engage
them especially for visual learners. Teacher showed the essential and guiding questions which
scaffold the lesson in to small steps to understand. For future improvement, I think providing
pictures of hurricanes with different keywords which give the students hints to provide the
appropriate answers.
What safety issues were taken into consideration? Students have to be careful when
they do the experiment using danger
equipment. (there is signage for the
instruction).
Were the students made aware of them? How? When students had an experiment,
they have to listen in the teacher’s
instruction. Otherwise, teacher have to
provide appropriate materials for the
experiment.
