Reflection2:
This lesson was my third lesson to teach, since it is a math lesson, I asked my MST to give
me some advices that may help me in my lesson like how to manage the classroom, the
activities that are suitable for children ’s ages and their ability of understanding, how to
divide children into groups according to their levels when it ’s the activity time, and also she
advised me to use a check list while observing the students to see who completed each
activity and what thinks that they were struggling in.
The topic of this lesson was writing, pronouncing and recognizing numbers from one to five.
I started my lesson with a song called ‘counting one to five song’. what I liked in this song
that it keeps repeating the numbers and the kids sing and learn at the same time. For this
lesson I created four activities which are, pizza, dice, writing and playdough.
In this lesson I focused on how the students would be more organized when moving from
group to another and I also focused in observing students whe n they choose their groups
according to their abilities.
The first activity which is the pizza I printed a plain pizza and there are some vegetables
beside the pizza pictures and there is also the number of ingredients that I want the children
to put on the top of the pizza. The second activity is the dice activity, I brought a foamed
dice that has a number on each side and there are numbers written on the paper and some
blank boxes under them. Students should roll the dice and whatever they got they should fill
the blank box and write on the number.
The third group is writing numbers from one to five on the white board in the right order.
The fourth group is the playdough group which children must create numbers with the
playdough.
There are things that went well in the lesson and things that didn’t go well. I did well in
choosing the activities but the pizza group there was a mistake from me that I didn ’t print
the ingredients in bigger sizes so when the kids were solving the pieces were falling down.
My MST liked my activities and the way of managing the classroom because it was better
than last time, in this lesson I created the activities by my own ideas.
When my MST and I was discussing about the activities she told me that their school
concentrate on f ine and gross motor skills so in the early morning when it ’s the time for the
activities she begins with group called playdough GYM, in this group they develop their fine
motor skills with teacher’s instructions.
My MST advised me to use something on the smart board, so the kids can use like the warm
parts that are numbered from one to five or they can also use their iPad in writing on the
dotted line or listening to music that me and my MST saved them.
