1. Cursory- adjective.
Going rapidly over something without paying
much attention; hasty, superficial, scanning. In s
cursory manor, she flipped through the textbook,
scanning for anything eye-catching.
2. Averse- adjective
Having a strong feeling of opposition, being
against something; antipathy, repugnance,
opposed. He averse the thought of stepping foot
into a dental office.
3. Grimace- noun
A facial expression indicating disagreement in a
typically disturbing or revolting. His grimace
came as no surprise, what she had just done was
completely remarkable.
4. Nostalgia- noun
A reminder of a happier or sentimental
time/place from one’s past, a desire to return.
Nostalgia crept over her as she heard that old
tune once again.
5. Jeopardy- noun
Risk of harm, danger. Being in a state of
jeopardy is to be at risk of something, typically
traumatic. Through constant jeopardy’s Ezme
somehow persists.
6. Scrutinize- verb (used with object)
Examination with close detail, paying careful
attention. The officer seemed to scrutinize his
every move/gesture.
7. Impervious- adjective
Incapable of being harmed or influenced,
unpersuasive, impeccable. She built up a
seemingly impervious wall to distract from the
fact that she is in fact, lost.
8. Duplicity- noun
Acting in different ways according to your
audience/partner; an act of deceitfulness. The
girls were confused when henry attempted to act
as if his duplicity was irrelevant.
9. Amicable- adjective
Being amicable is to be friendly and able to
work with. Jenny believed she was so amicable,
which ironically made her the least amicable.
10. Adroit- adjective
Skilled in the use of one’s body, resourceful,
talented. Conner was an adroit watchmaker,
some say he’s one of the best.
11. Benevolent- adjective
Much like being amicable, to be friendly and
appreciative. Although the man was rude and
grimace, the paramedic insisted on remaining
benevolent to him and his son.
12. Belligerent- adjective
Aggressive or hostile; someone who is
belligerent may be threatening. As belligerent as
she was, he stood his ground and demanded
justice.
13. Holocaust- noun
Mass scale destruction, quite disastrous. Like a
digital holocaust, he deleted all data from
Johnna’s computer; all pictures, music, files.
14. Impetus- noun
Momentum, the force contained and controlled
by a body.
15. Retrogress- verb
Like nostalgia, the feeling of going back to a
past time in one’s life; but generally, an
unpleasant experience. Retrogressing into her
childhood was seemingly a daily task for Sarah.
16. Feasible- adjective
Able to complete something with ease; possible,
plausible, conceivable. Writing was a feasible
act, he enjoyed it.
17. Tepid- adjective
Reasonably warm, room temperature or
unenthusiastic. She only tepidly participated as
she was too overwhelmed retrogressing into last
week.

To praise highly; laud; eulogize. He extolled his
father. He was his hero; his savior.
20. Quintessence- noun
The pure and concentrated essence of a
substance. The life she lived was merely a
quintessence of the dreams she dreamed.
