Introduction
Background of the study
The province of South Cotabato is rich in terms of agricultural product; it is the
major producer of pineapple, corn, papaya, abaca, cassava, banana and coconut.
Farming is one of the sources of income of the people in this province, one of the
agriculture products that very efficient in terms of farming is coconut, and most of the
people considered this as the tree of life for all of its parts are very useful. However
coconut is very marketable when it converts into business, one the possible business
specifically here in Koronadal City is producing coconut tea.
Coconut tea has milk and cream, no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives, it
contains antioxidants and rich in coconut cream and oil, helps build up the body’s
defenses and boost metabolism. Moreover coconut tea helps reduce illness like U.T.I,
heart diseases and others that many people suffered and by its natural and healthy
effects, it will be more competitive and productive in a market.
The origin of coconut remains a mystery. However, many historian believe that
the earliest written record appears in Sanskrit, revealing that the people of India were
exposed to this fruit. Coconut images may also be found in pre-Columbian pottery
unearthed in Peru. Marco Polo made a note of his encounter with the fruit when visiting
India. He called it “Pharoah’s nut”. Other travelers were equally impressed. Coconuts

feature prominently in the journals of Magellan and Francis Drake. Coconut can convert
into business by its useful parts; one possible business of coconut is a tea.
Coconut tea is believed to be rooted in Europe, America or China with no
historical evidence to prove exactly where it was first made (Tsujiri S. Maison). This a
relatively new beverages, at least for western countries. As the name implies, coconut
tea is a caffeinated herbal beverage that’s made from milk and coconut flakes,
combined with either black or green tea. The concoction makes for an exceptional
beverage with potent active ingredients, not to mention its delectable flavor. The East
has been preparing this drink for generations, especially in tropical regions where
coconut trees abound. It’s traditionally served hot, but innovations have been introduced
to make the drink appeal to new and old drinkers. These days, it can be served cold as
iced tea or bubble tea. The common ingredient is always coconut, providing the main
flavor and the nutritional elements (Positive Health Wellness, 2016-2017).
Rationale of the Study
The aims of this study is to contribute in a market with an effective and profitable
business at the same time a convenient and satisfaction to its target customers that will
provide a healthy living for a cheaper price. The proponents selected this study not only
to earn profits but also to provide wellness life by innovating this product called coconut
tea for it has many benefits to give, it has loaded with electrolytes that are naturally
sterile, these are important for your pH levels and muscle functions and have higher

fiber contents, this is good for weight watchers as it will make them feel full and crave
less. The fiber is also good for waste elimination.
However this product will be more competitive for its new and unique to the
people, the main reason of the proponents for selecting this study is to produce or
supply a coconut tea in some restaurants or coffee in the Koronadal, South Cotabato to
recognize as a herbal healthy product and also can innovate its flavor that will be more
competitive.
Objectives of the study
The study aims to determine the viability of Coconut tea in Koronadal City, South
Cotabato.
Specifically, it aims to:
1. describe the profile of the coconut tea industry in Koronadal City, South Cotabato
2. present the major players in the industry in the following aspects:
a. Organizational
b. Operational/ technical
c. Marketing
d. Financial
3. discuss the feasibility of the proposed study in the following aspects:

Scope and Limitations
This study is focus only in coconut tea industry in Koronadal City, South
Cotabato since the area is very suitable for the business. The study will only limit 4
barangay’s in Koronadal City namely Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3, and GPS.
METHODOLOGY
Research Design
Descriptive method is being used to assess socio-demographic profile such as
name, sex, age, and occupation. Referral sampling is being used in conducting survey
to target the market of the business.

Research Locale
There are several of tea can be purchased in Koronadal City including
commercial tea and tea offer by the coffee shop. But no one of them offers coconut tea
in the area. The coconut tea was specifically determined by the researchers in
Koronadal City, South Cotabato to their respondents.
Sample size
The respondents of the study are the people age 20-60 years old that are located
in barangay Zone 1, 2, 3, and GPS
Research Instruments
The researcher made a survey questionnaire that will answer the four aspect of
the study such as organizational, marketing, technical, and financial aspect. The survey
questionnaire was used to get all the necessary data that are relevant to the study. In
addition, the researcher made also a self-interview guide to gathered information that is
also necessary to the study.

Data Gathering Procedure
The researcher will personally administer the research instruments to the
respondents. They will explain and discuss the significance of the study and will
distribute the instruments properly.
The respondents will have 5 minutes to finish the survey. The researchers will
collect the questionnaires after answering. After the questionnaires will be collected, the
result will be tallied and tabulated. These data will become the bases of analysis and
interpretation.
