Coca-Cola Production Process Overview

The document summarizes the production process of Coca-Cola. It describes the various steps including water treatment through filtration and purification, preparation of the syrup by dissolving sugar in treated water, mixing the syrup with concentrate and flavorings, carbonation using CO2, and bottling. The production cycle aims to ensure microbiological safety and sensory characteristics of the final product. It also discusses the team's investigation of the process and differences they observed between Coca-Colas produced in Mexico and the US.

Production process.

The production cycle starts with sugar, fruit juices, flavors and concentrate or
beverage base. The finished products will be packaged in PET or glass bottles, metal
cans, bag in box or kegs.

Water treatment

The water used in the production process is subjected to special treatments that
ensure the microbiological safety and the correct concentration of naturally dissolved
salts, in compliance with specific compositional and sensory characteristics.

The syrup

The syrup is prepared in special tanks by dissolving sugar in the treated water, then
filtering the water to remove any impurities. Only after this, this “simple syrup” is
mixed with “concentrate” or the various “basic preparations” used for the various
drinks, thus becoming “final syrup”.

A flash pasteurization thermal process ensures that even the most sensitive products
will not alter their sensory characteristics during their shelf life.

Process description.

Water treatment.

The first step in this process of Coca-Cola is to disinfect the water using chlorination
procedures. This assures us that all micro-organism and pathogens are eliminated.
Also removes the organic and inorganic impurities present in the water.

This bring us to the next step, the filtration at the molecular level, which is carried
out through coagulation/flocculation or reverse osmosis.

The third step to stop potential contaminants is water purification using granular
activated carbon filters

And the last step of filtration is done by a polishing filter, which is flows water through
5-micron filter to ensure every drop of water it is carbon activated fines free.

Purity of sugar.

The sugar selection process it is a quite rigorous, it is purchased form high level
suppliers, this is cleaned by a carbon process and it’s used to create the syrup use
in the concentrate.
CO2 Carbonation process.

The gas of CO2 goes through for a quality control checks before that can be used in
the beverage.

Then the syrup and treated water goes into the carbonator driven by a pump that
takes it to the carbonator, where it’s treated by lots and the drinks obtained in by this
process is the final state of the beverage.

That bring us to the final step of the manufacturing, the bottling.

Bottling and Packing.

Coca Cola uses a fully automated process to recycle the glass bottles returned from
the market. These bottles are sanitized at high temperatures with specially
formulated cleaning agents. They are then transported to the filler after a thorough
visual inspection. After they are filled, in a high-speed automated filling machine, the
bottles are capped/crowned, date coded and packed into crates/cartons.
Conclusions.

We choose de process of the coke because we thought that is very important to

make know how the coke is made. In the investigation that we make we notice that
is a process very complete that have different kinds of products that get combine on
the process making the flavor of the coke, also we search for information on both
languages ( English and Spanish ) to make sure that the information make sense
because some of us have tasted both different of coke the one that is sale in USA
and the one that is sold in Mexico, we think that maybe could be a difference of how
they make it because the flavor is very different.

We learned about the process, their strict quality standards and main steps to make
a good final product.

Also, is important to mentioned Coca Cola process is fully automated, in order to

understand all possible complications, furthermore the criteria selection of main
variables that can affect the final result.

All of us are excited of showing this because coke is one of the most selling things
in the world.
