Highway Engineering Design Overview

This document provides information for Homework 1 on the design of horizontal and vertical alignments for a highway engineering course. It assigns group members and gives design considerations for a two-lane rural road, including a maximum 10% grade, 3.00m lane width, 0.5m shoulder width, and 60km/hr design speed. Cross-section data and vehicle design criteria from the 2018 Geometric Design Manual are also listed.

2018-I
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE DESIGN

- The road will be a two-lane rural road (use the default template for cross section
provided by the SOFTREE software)
- Maximum grade for road will be 10%.
- Minimum grade is +-0.5%.
- Design speed = 60 km/hr.
- The road will consist of simple horizontal curves only.
- The roadway must follow the existing alignment to reduce earthwork.
- Horizontal and vertical curve designs will be presented in metric units.

DATA CONSIDERED IN THE CROSS SECTION DESIGN

Data Considered In The Cross Section Design

1. Width Lane 3.00 m
2. Lateral Shoulders Width 0.50 m
