Introduction
The Boys & Girls Club of Miami-Dade has been serving children in the community since
1940. It is an organization that strives to improve the lives of young children by promoting
healthy lifestyle choices. The Boys & Girls Club has expanded its curriculum over the years by
providing programs in the areas of leadership development, educational enhancement, career
planning, health and life knowledge, sports, fitness and recreation. The overall goal of the club
is to inspire and enable the youth to succeed. The organization has established various programs
to educate and encourage the youth to become involved however, the organization is lacking the
concept of educating the youth about the importance of adequate nutrition and fitness in order to
achieve optimal health.
Unfortunately, obesity is a major problem occurring in the youth and the organization
needs to find ways to include this aspect in their programs. Children must be aware of the
dangers of an inactive lifestyle in order to encourage them to get involved in physical activities.
The staff is originally trained to assist the youth and create a fun environment instead of actually
engaging in the activities with the children. Typically, when children are told what do without
the involvement of an adult they tend to do otherwise; therefore, the staff must become more
involved and make activities exciting. Many kids today do not participate in physical activities
nor do they obtain the necessary level of fitness to be fit because they prefer playing with
electronic devices. Stressing the importance of fitness is a necessary aspect of the curriculum that
must be expressed by the staff as it will improve the youth’s health and abilities in various ways.
Implementing a fitness training program for the staff will allow the staff to acquire the
knowledge and skills that is required in order to motivate children to participate in physical
activities.

Training Needs Analysis
Organizational Analysis
The objective of this training program on the organizational level is to promote fitness to the
youth, which will positively help the image of the Boys & Girls Club as they strive to provide an
active lifestyle to each child.
Organizational Mission/Strategies:
The Boys & Girls Club of Miami-Dade mission is to “inspire and enable all young people,
especially who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible
citizens.” As pertaining to fitness the Boys & Girls Club promote health, and enforce physical
activities in the youth to guarantee they have an active lifestyle.
Organizational Environment:
The Boys & Girls Club of Miami-Dade is based on teamwork for the reason that all staff
members have to depend on each other to learn and implement the proper fitness for the youth.
Resources:
Capital Resources: There is a certain amount of funds for this specific training program
in order to train all staff members of the Boys & Girls Club successfully, to ensure proper
physical fitness to the children.
Human Resources: Currently, there are 3 HR professionals and multiple advisors for the
organization.
Operational Analysis
During this analysis, it was established that numerous staff members working at the club lacked
many significant KSA’s. As a result, there was no motivation on fitness/physical activities, as the
children would carry on in other inactive activities.
KSA’s required for Training Program:
Knowledge of the significance of daily physical activities
Knowledge of the consequences of poor fitness
Ability to teach the children about the importance of fitness
Ability to interact well with the children
Ability to demonstrate the exercises to the children
Ability to create an entertaining atmosphere
Skills in creativity (create new exciting games)
Skills on how to motivate children to participate daily
2
Person Analysis
The role of the Boys & Girls Club staff members is to:
show the children different physical activities
teach the children about the importance of fitness
help children stay motivated
create an enjoyable environment by interacting with the children in a devoted manner
make sure all children are participating
implement exercises/activities that are fun
Several of the staff members were not inspired, thus lacked important attributes that are needed
to strive in the program. In order to carry out their role appropriately and succeed, staff members
need to be organized, motivated, encouraged, and innovative.
Performance Discrepancies
Given the training needs analysis, the training is necessary in:
keeping the staff and children motivated.
increasing the attendance of the children.
creating an effective plan for the children to participate daily.
helping children become active in physical activities.
The staff must put forth maximum effort in order to establish an active fitness program for the
children to participate daily.
Needs that can be addressed through this training include:
motivation for the staff
encouragement for the children to be active
proper knowledge of the importance of daily physical activities
how to interact with children efficiently

Training Method
Several training methods will be used in order to ensure all trainees are properly trained for the
fitness program. The following methods will allow trainees to acquire the knowledge and skills
that are required for the program:
Lectures
The lectures will coincide with all of the information that will be provided throughout the
training program. Therefore, it will serve as the basis for all methods used as it will include basic
topics that will be further explained throughout the training. The lectures will consist of an
introduction that will describe the purpose of the training program, which is implementing a
fitness program. The presenter will also emphasize on the importance of fitness and bring
awareness to the trainees of the dangers of an unhealthy lifestyle.
PowerPoint’s
The PowerPoint’s will further explain topics discussed in the lecture. The presentations will
serve as a visual aid for the oral information provided in lecture. The presentation will also go
into detail on how to approach children and the proper language and tones that must be used
when interacting with kids to improve communication. It will include techniques that are helpful
to motivate children and guidelines on how to make sure children are involved. Several examples
will be included before trainees go into depth with other methods.
Videos
Videos will prepare trainees to know what to do in what if situations. For instance, it will show
trainees the importance of critical thinking skills and provide guidelines on what to do in certain
situations in order to achieve the goals of the program. Videos express actual movement and will
allow trainees to actually visualize how to do specific tasks. For instance, the video may include
stretching techniques which will allow the trainees to acquire the proper stretching techniques
that must be performed before engaging in physical activity.
Demonstration
This particular method will go hand in hand with the videos. The presenter will be assisted in
performing the fitness techniques that were shown in the videos. This method will allow trainees
to visualize exactly how things must be done so that they are able to accomplish the fitness
techniques when dealing with the children.
For instance, the presenter will demonstrate how to play kickball. The presenter will begin by
explain the rules to the game and then demonstrating with the staff how to play the game.
6
Discussion
The trainees will be given the opportunity to clarify any information necessary. Discussions will
allow the trainees to interact amongst each other or ask questions about any aspect of the training
program they do not understand or wish to learn more about. People take in information
differently; therefore, discussing the information will allow trainees to view information from
different perspectives.
Role-Play
Role playing is a critical method as it allows trainees to actively perform what they have learned.
Trainees will get hands on experience by testing their critical thinking skills and participating in
different activities to identify their level of understanding of all other methods previously
discussed. Trainees will be challenged to demonstrate what they would do and say in given
situations. The trainees will also be asked to perform the fitness techniques and physical
activities that were covered by the presenter in the demonstration component. In addition,
trainees will get into small groups and play games in order to ensure they know the rules of the
game and are able to interact with one another so that they gain the skills needed when they are
actually completing the tasks with children. The trainees will be provided with feedback in order
for them to be aware of their strengths and weaknesses so that they will improve their skills and
meet the needs of the program.
7
Training Development
Facilities
The fitness training program will take place on-site at the Boys & Girls Club of Miami-Dade,
specifically at the Hank Kline Club. It will be held in the indoor gym as there is adequate seating
and sufficient space for demonstrations and role playing. The presenters and trainees will have
the ability to perform and practice all activities live in the facility and portray activities exactly as
if they were working with the kids.
Trainers
The trainers will be experienced workers that have been effective in dealing with children. These
trainers are qualified employees that have been in the organization for several years and have
succeeded in incorporating kids in all activities and motivating children to participate in physical
activities. These professionals also understand the importance of fitness and are well aware of
the consequences of the lack of fitness. They are physically competent and are knowledgeable on
all activities available to the children and the rules of all the games.
Equipment
LCD projector and projection screen for PowerPoint’s and videos
USB drive with all necessary data that will be utilized during training
Chairs to watch the videos, PowerPoint’s, lectures, and discussions
Electronic devices such as a laptop and/or iPad
Brochures with information provided in the lectures
Performance/guide manuals that will include the procedures/rules of all activities
Orange cones to set up various stations for different activities/games
Sports balls (volleyballs, footballs, basketballs, tennis balls)
8
Training Evaluation
The final component of the training will be the completion of an evaluation by all members
attending training. The evaluation will serve as a survey to determine the effectiveness of the
training program. Trainees are expected to retain the information and incorporate the strategies
daily with the kids. It is important to know if the trainees understood the material and obtain their
opinions on the training. Through the evaluation we will be able to know if the trainees benefited
from the training and identify any changes that should take place, if any, in order to improve the
training method and ensure that trainees are receiving optimal training.
Trainee Reaction
At the end of each training session trainees will be asked to complete an evaluation to serve as
feedback for the presenters and professionals. The evaluation form will allow us to determine the
success of the training and make any necessary adjustments. (A sample of the evaluation survey
is included in the following page)
Trainee Learning
In order to measure what the employees have learned through the training they will be assessed
based on job performance. Once employees have completed the training they will be put to the
test and evaluated based on the techniques and practices discussed in the training. Observing the
employees will determine the effectiveness of the training and how the employees portray what
they have learned to motivate and involve children in fitness activities.
Trainee Transfer
The trainees will be expected to apply what they have learned in the training on a daily basis.
Continuous evaluation and observation will be held to make sure all employees are on track and
applying all the concepts they have learned.
Organizational Effectiveness
Training outcome will be determined on various levels:
Employees will be more involved in physical activity with the children
Employees will be more encouraged
Children will show an increased motivation and drive to play games
Children attendance will improve
Parents will be more satisfied
